Once again teachers and students of Newtonville Public School have something of pride and accomplishment 10 boast about. With. the, last terma weil underway, kids are still taking their school work seriously, even though thoughts of summ-uertime are surely starting 10 shake-rattle- and-roll in the back of their mindis. "Quite a number of young people 1 have chatted with, for a moment or so on their way home fromn school, really seem 10 like their teachers and the kind of work they are doing down at our Newtonville School . notes Mrs . Margaret Elliott. Mrs. Elliott can often be seen out and about puttering at her lovely lawn and flower beds, as school children scoot by her home On Newtonville Road. Three cheers to students (1-r)' Jacqueline Hurvid for their literary and public speaking achievements! Erin Higgins, Erin Muizelaar and (1-r) Chris McLean and Stephen newspaper, "with reasonable rates Grant are proud to be co- and wide distribution,' ordinating their grade 4/5 class Little Scoops ... - Recycling bins have been placed in Newtonville (over at the children's litle park, if you cari believe it) It is hoped that a more suitable location can be found here in the village for these "recycling igloos," as they are dubbed. As Paul Cleveland of Newtonville said, "Yes! Rec ycling is Our future, and of course we al want a better environment. We know that recycling is a major part of the answer." Though it bas only been a week or so, virtually everyone 1 have corne across, talking'about these Big Blue Bins agree that there bas got to be a more suitable location - perhaps down at the Car Pool lot near the 401. The spot is almost comnpletely empty rnost of the time and seems a WASTE 0F SPACE AND MONEY as ir is. 1 arn sure we will hear more on this topic. - With Spring seerning to really and truly be here finally - local nurseries are feeling Mother Nature's presence. Top soil, fertilizers, peat moss, spring bulbs and some flowers and shrubs are lready moving quickly. After that recent meeting down at the school with regards to the Ministry of Transportation and plans for road improvements in our hamlet, many folks 'round town seem to be looking forward to the sprucing up - i more ways' than one ... Perhaps I arn a little eccentric (sitting outside with rny typewriter this lovely Monday morning. ,.) but sometimes I find myself wishing that Mother Nature herself would have a magic wand over somie of the obvious eye sores in town, and these places around Newtonville disgracing our image will bcelcanied up!
