Region names pireferred Highway 407 route The Region of Durham lias named its preferred route for the extension of highway 407 into the Region. Regional chairman Gary Herrema had to break a tie over the issue. The route will pass south of Highway 7 and south of Broughiam, Greenwood, Kinsale, Brooklin. It then moves north of Winchester Road and Concession 7. through Oshawa and Newcastle to meet up with the intersection of highway 35 and 115. Water and sewer rates to increase The Region of Durhiamn las increased water and sewer rates by an average of 6.9 percent., Residential custoniers will face a 5.6 percent mncrease . New wells for Welcome residents Ten new wells have been drilled in Welcome on Hi ghway 2 where existing wells were damaged due to road sait contamination. 0f the ten wells three sti11 have traces of road sait and they are to be deepened. The Ministry of Transportation accepted responsibility for the salting of wells last May. Since May residents of affected wells have been provided with bottled water.
