4-Orono Weekly TiMi, Wednesday, October 24, 1990 Happy 34th Wedding Anniversary Octo ber 26t h Love Brian, Ron and Karen Frank and Denise Thirty percent return on Orono garbage drop According te Kristin McÇrea, of a committee of the No Ganaraska Dump group, reports the first week bas been encouraging, in planning a garbage reduction plan in a sizeable area, east of Orono. She said, "Considering the fact that many of the people were not reached by phone before Wednes- day we are satisfied and look for a btter participation this week." Mc- Crea pointed out that people could flot be expected to go through their garbagu to separate it at the last minute. The phone in figure have shown that thirty percent of those con- tacted had participated representing a population of 160 people. She said the weighît of the garbage of those reported weighed-in at 198.7 pounds - 1.2 pounds per person. She said the averageperson's gar- bagu weekly, is recognized to be over three pounds. "We are looking for a 60 percent participation this week," saiîd Mc- Crea, " as everyonie has been con- tacted and time bas been available to set-up plans, for participating. Sh e said that from reports back there bas beent an educational value to the scbeme and there is interest in making an effort to support tibe scbeme. Some of thie problemns in disposýal mentioned by those participating included syrofoam meat trayý, tfan beits and disposable diapers. Higbi density plastic bottles also prove a problemn. 1McCrea said there are solutions for some of these problemns and will be distributed. In a ru-use plan it was suggested by one participant that Empty milk> plastic bags could be used as freezer bags. Information was also provided to the fact that A&P dees have a bin for plastic bags and that customers could ask for paper bags. It bas been suggested that better signage would stimulate the use of the recycling bins which are general- ly tucked away out of sight. It has been suggested that the gar- bage can be moved from its regular position which gives time to think about waste before îhrowing it away into the garbage stream. Kristin McCrea informs the Times that contact bas been made with City Gardener who handies Digester Composter. She said they were reasonably priced at $49.00 and orders are being taken until Monday of this coming week. Fur- ther details on the digester can be obtained by phoning McCrea at 983-9339. McCrea also states that others outside the designated area may take part in the trial scheme and again information and literature can obe obtained by phoning 983-9339. Commîttee Brîefs, (Continued from page 3) ment as to amalgamation and that the Otonabee was receptive to tak- ing over that part of the Ganaraska in the Town of Newcastle. Counc. Wotten questionied the legality of signs placed along the side of the sixth line east of the New Dutch Oven by the Ganaraska No Dumpi committee. Fie said they were dangerously close to the side of the road and that a couple of weeks ago large flags on the seventh, at the ski hill did obstruct vision of the road. Counc. Hooper said there was a Town by-law governing signs on Town property. Council is get a report from slaff. Counc. Hamre commented brief- ly on'the Region's position as to the Christian Corners by Rev. Marg West In John 10:10 Jesus tells us that the thief cornes to steal, kili and destroy, 1 (Jesus) have corne that you might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly. What do you consider life to be in your case, and what about life more abundant. Life should be salvation, peace, love, joy, success, everlasting happiness. Raising responsible children flot brats. Children that know God. Children that respect their parents. Only then will we see a difference in our world today. Children that do not have respect for their parents don't have respect for anyone. Our children are how we raised them. Granted they may go through trials & tribulations until they mature and realize the truth that we have instilled in themn (if we have). I also know that some children don't have a fair childhood and they dont know anything but doing wrong. If the 'parents are stealing, fighting, drinking being just real nasty, its a good probability that their children will grow up to be the same way. Children who were battered as youngsters usually end up to be wife beaters. The pattern repeats itself regardless of the situation. Beating, drinking, incest, its a familiar spirit, a spirit that is familiar with the family. The world says its hereditary and in a sense it is because its passed down from Letter to Edîtor The Bowmanville Drama Workshop wili be putting on a childrens play titled "Put On The Spot" directed by Nick Van Seggelen and produced by Barb Tukker. Thank you., Patricia Powers proposed possible dump sites in Durham.ý She said if the Region pulled one site out of contenition it would leave a shadow over the con- cerned lands. She said the Region would have to proceed or take action to withdraw ail sites for review. The commnittee approved a number of contractsincluding new folding wall dividers for the Bowmanville Area complex at a cost of $22,265.00. Other contracts awarded includ- ed $133,050.00 for 'gravel crushing and haulage; $31,800 for Soper Creek Erosion work; $37,800 for a saît dome to be constructed generation to generation. Sort out your thoughts, before you act, don't act irrational, think about things before you respond. If your thoughts are telling you to gossip, think about it, whos it going to help, anyoFne? To steal, you eventually get caught and then what? Remember Gods thoughts are always for our benefit, Satan'sý' thoughts for his benefit. Questions or Comments, 'Write Box 179, Orono.
