12-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, October 24, 1990 Bmook Return for 'New' Newcastle Library Barbara Baker, Library Director and Jacob Vander Schee, Board Chairman were on hand 10 officiai cul the ribbon for the new Book Return at the new Newcastle Public Library which will be located in the new maîl at 50 Mill Street, Newcastle. The library's branch in the village of Newcstle will be closed from October 29th îo allow for packing and the move 10 ils new expanded location. The branch is expected 10 reopen for the public on November l3th with a collection 25% larger than Ihat currently available. Mrs, Baker said that wilh the growlh spart ýand so many young families with strollers as well as for handicapped' people with wheelchaîrs, the 'steps were aîrocious at the Town Hall. Another person wold have to have been hired to staff the second root as the library in the Town Hall was housed in two separate rooms on each side of a public entrance way. The new library will be home 10 the largest pre-school collection in the Town of Newcastle Public Branches. Mr. Jacob Vander Schee, Board Chairman, said althoagh the ent will be increased by at least 5 times, that the change was necessary. He said Ihal the capital fanding cornes from lot levies. There will be double the space than the old building had and hopefally will entice children 10 spend more ime at the library. There wilI be four computer terminaIs, îwo for staff and two for public access. During the lwo-week closure, branch library asers are encouraged 10 use their library cards at either the Clarke Branch in Orono or the Bowmanville Branch. Materials may be reîurned at any branch including the new Newcastle Village Branch where the after- hours Reîurns chute will be in operation on Wednesday October 3 1, just in limie for the wiîches and goblins. Business and Protessional Womnen's Club of Bowmanville celebrate their 40th Anniversary Members of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Bowmanville are celebraîing the 401h Anniversary of their club on November 15, 1990. The Club began in June 1950, and over the years il bas mainlained a slrong nucleus of members who have kept the club alive and active. We have the Dleasare and privilege of having one charter member, mamian Jeffery, sti11 wiîh the club. Although flot a service club, the BoDwmanville BPW Club at first raised money through varjous ventures for local projects. In laler Leaf Collection Program 1. Leaves have been banned at the Landf iii Site si-nce 1989 and as a resuit, municipalities have flot been permitted to collect leaves as part of their regular garbage collection service. The collected leaves have to be taken to a Provincially approved Disposai Site. Previously leaves could be placed in any type of plastic bag, provided they were specially tagged. This procedure is flot permitted for 1990. 2. Arrangements have been made to collect your leaves and deliver them to a Composting Site pro- videdthey are placed in c lear plastic bags only and placed for collection in the normal man ner. Arrangeme~nts have been made to ensure that clear plastic bags will be available at local stores throughout the Region. 3. Leaves placed out for collection in any other type of bag or container will ot b. picked up as regular garbage or as leaves. 4.
