(>rono Weekly T[imes, Wednesday, Juiy 11, 1990-9 Newtonville Aliv e by Peggy Mullan' Newtonville school principal David Gray "flîps" for kids - as grade 6 teacher Anne Somers and student Jason O'Donnell await their chance to sample the culinary wonders of this singing chef! The last day of school, June 26 was a particularly special day for the grade 6 class, who will be departing Newtonville with much anticipation and some apprehension, as they prepare for the step up to grade 7 at The Pines. in honour of the occasion, staff planned a student - teacher basebal game directly following the barbe- que for the senior kids. Spirits were high. It was truly a memorable, happy farewell party for our senior class. "Class of '90" Front Row (1-r): Devon Bryant, Sarah Melhuish, teacher Anne Somers, principal Dave Gray, Sara It has been my personal pleasure to have spent quite a bit of time with these grade 6 kîds. 1 would like to thank everyone of them for taking me back to those crazy "pre-teen" times, for the Newman, Shannon King and Rob McLean, Scott Mullan, Corey Volochkov. Back Row (-r): Ryan Brobbel, Chris Green, Jason Farrow, Michael Pollard, Ryan O'Donnell and Derek Barton. Teal, Derek Arnold, Jason chats we had, the giggles, smiles and special friendships we might have shared. Good luck to you ail in grade 7. You are one terrific bunch of kids. Congratulations and thank you to Ann'ê Somers and David Gray, on their first full year at Newton- ville. This senior class has been anything but passive, and from where I stand it's thumbs up to you. Some extremely bored person, or persons decided to give residents of Newtonville a slap in the face and an undeserved sneer or two. It has'been about a month now since our new water tower had its 'defacing'. Flourescent paint shouting "Cuban", "Hooterville" and more "unpublishable" phrases rise into the sky insulting this com- mumity not to mention the beer bot- tdes and used, fireworks strewn about its base. For the life of me I cannot figure out why anybody would be com- pelled to go to ail this trouble. Hopefulfy the Region of Durham helps us out on this one soon. - The Annual UCW Bazaar and Craft Sale is set for October 27. Watch for further details if you would be interested in a table. Jot the date on your calcndarnow. -A fine Canada Day Beef Barbeque was held July lst on the church grounds in Newtonville.-Credit is due Iargely to many organizers, par- ticularly Wally Boughen and Phil Gilmer (who 1 had the pleasure of meeting before hand.) The UCW were in the finest of form and by the most part every single helping hand held good old fashioned warmth and hospitality. (Should have a picture or two for next week.) Thank you for your interest in this community column., If you have somnething you'd like to share, I'd be happy to hear from yoU. Have a terrific week. Sumnmer is well underway.
