If we were to counit the outing a g reat one on the record of catching pickcrel the event was a disaster. Anyway the fish are still there to be caught another day. Just to get away for the week-end is rcward enough and then, of course, there is always the oppor- tunity of t he companionship and while in the bush area thc further opportunity to go after some of the warblers sightings. We have, not been able to arouse any great en- thusiasm in Bill for bird watching s0 it was in the most a sole effort. The area is home to many of the warblers and with a 6:00 a.m. jaunt into the bush area a good number were sighted. We were pleased to havc sighted two American Redstarts, a Chestnut Sided, along with a Black and White, Magnolia and a Yellow rump within a short perîod of time. Numerous Hummingbirds were in the area which seemed rather strange but is something that we have noted in other such outings. I'm sure its not hummingbird feeders in this particular area that attract the bird nor is it any of the dmonestic flowers. Nature bas it way, of course, to fecd the bird. We wcrc brought to an abrupt stop midway through the walk by a bird song whicb we had heard only last year north of 'Pontypool in a hcavily wooded area. The song itself is interesting with trilîs, warblcs, ratties and anything cisc that can be thrown in. Further it goes on for at least some six or seven seconds (we did time it) which is unusual for a bird song. Most of the birds songs, according to ';c'nograms. are completed easily Christian Cor'ner Beverley and Dianna Cowan of Orono. The marriage will take place August 4, 1990 at the Newcastle United Church. by Rev. Marg West Th is week I'd like to look at at- titudes (mine in particular). 1 have a bad habit of allowing people, things, and situations, to bug me. My husband doesn't allow things to bug him, including me. Our at- titudes can be kept under control if we will them to. We have to want, not to think bad, act bad or feel bad about things that annoy us. It's not as easy as it sounds. When something or someone bugs us it's real easy to retaliate ither with words, a look, a sigh. The person doing the bugging (they may not even know they are) usually gets the message that we are annoyed. My face says everything, joy, unhap- piness, annoyance, you name it people can see what I'm thinking. It's flot a good thing to have that kind of emotions. 1 am attempting with God's help to get this attitude thing under control. When I'm bug- ged it's only me who is stewing the other person situation or whatever could care less. When we let go of ourcontrol over our emotions it's not good for our health. We hash things over and re-hash them until we are down right mad. We could end up with high blood pressure, mental break downs, arthritis etc. Proverbs: 16:24 say that "Plea- sant words are as a honeycomb, within two and a haîf seconds. So it does stand out when heard. Now 1 have neyer been able to find the bird for in the two occa- sions of hearing it it was in deep woods -almost unpenetrable by a human being. On both occasions we tried to sit the bird out hoping it would corne to the fringe. It bas been without success. The only bird we know that bas such a length of song is the Yellow Chat but unfortunately whcn we have seen the bird it bas not been singing. We'l1 leave this until the next time and likely we'll bc intercsted in another few trips north of Pon-' typool to sec if it is there this sum- mer. We did start out to write about confusion in our own back yard but , have rambled on. The confusion is not actually in our backyard but at the intersection of Taunton Road and Highway 115/35. Coming 'home and being just north of the aforementioned in- tersection some comment was made about it and Bill said that Barbara had mentioned you had to make an illegal turn from the ramrp to Taun- ton Road if you wanted to travel east on the extention to tbe sixth line. 1 knew this wasn't right but for the like of me 1 couldn't say just how you would'use the intersection from travelling south on 115 to then travel east, on the sixth line. 1 had heard thîs before and actually have scen drivers* make the illegal turn when coming through the ramp to turn cast. But when we got home 1 suddenly realized that if wishing to travel east on the sixth line one did flot exit at the Taunton Road ramp but travell- cd further south to make a right at the Co-op Road to advance to the Taunton Road and then turn right. Now that we have that straighten- ed out we wilI leave you for another week. 0 0 sweet to the soul and health to the bones." Our soul is our mi, will and- emotions. So if we give people who we allow to bug ussweet words it's going to be good for our minds, it's going to help us get our will in the right order and our bones are going to, be healthy. A lot of people don't realize that they have sickness and emotional problems because of their attitudes. 3 John: 2 says, "Beloved I wish above all things that you would pro- sper and be in health even as your soul prospers." God earnestly desires that we would prosper (financially) and be health but only if our sould (mmnd, will, and emotions) are healthy. We can get our minds, wills and emotions healthy by knowing God through a personal relationship with Jesus, by getting to know Him and about Him by reading His Word the Bibleand by talking to Him (prayer). P.S. 1 sure picked a good one this week. 1 wrote this vcry1 early last Wednesday morning. By Thursday, both my husband and my self need- ed an attitude adjustment. Questions or Comments? Dr. Bertell is flot an alarmest but does state that trends in the in- cidents of leukemia around nuclear facilities does show increases over other areas. In this she cited big jump in child leukemia during the period of above ground nuclear testing in the southernÎ states. She also spoke of a big jump in the in- cidents of child leukemia betwecn the period of 1979 and 1980 follow- ing the Three Mile Island accident. "I think there is clearly a pro- blem around these facilities using nucîcar powýer," she said.' The doctor also said that the cur- rent radiation dose standards per- mitted under existîng Canadian legislation are at present too high as they were based on statistics that were measured on f4talities from cancer rather thfan from more ac- curate sources. She stated the in- cidents are undcr-estimated fromn 10 to 50 times. The speaker was afraid that Canada was flot about to follow an international trend to decrease the limit. of standards to protect public health. She noted that the local commit- tee was using an AECB booklet that was grossly outdated. Dr. Berteli once again as she bas donc in the past, told of the need for baseline health studies around nuclear plants. You must have something to measure to in the future, she said. When answering questions the speaker said there were complexities in handling low level waste,' but consideration also had to be given to fiscal responsibility. "We can't forget about what we are passing on to future generations," she said. The wastc will be passed fromn generation to generation, she stated. The Liaison committee group has established a number of public meetings and later this month are holding a -Think-Tank" session amongst themselves to prepare their position for reports. Gordon White of the commîttee said the group had to get their act together in informing the communi- ty who the group is«- to inform the community on low level waste and to obtain the opinions of the coin- munity. A meeting is planned for July l2th to be held in Orono. Mel Garland said to this point they have been reaching only a small percentage of the community. According to an announcement by the chairman, John Veldhuis, the committee is now in the thîrd phase of their study. A report is ex- pected by June 25th for counicil and anothèr report to be ready in early September., E RESTAURANT & DINING LOUNGE john st., pontypool ~ Phone 705-277-3211 FULLY LICENCED FINE DINING -After Dinner:- IT'S PARTY TIME DOWNSTAIRS at '"The HITCHING POS T" Corne and En;oy the best in Country Entertainrnent with- "BILL JOHNSON" Friday & Saturday 9 p.m. to 1 a.m (~nhISunday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m Late N ight Snacks - Take-Out - Pizza j From A round Home by Roy Forrester 1
