Mother's Day is this Sunday, May l3th. Remember those very special ladies in vour life. vtsiting Estonian tradesmen Treeland Nurseries Ltd., they are Jalakas 32, Lembit Aabna 36 and flank Production Manager David (-r) Jaak Laidoner 39, Indrek Vello Lugna 43. Brown (centre) of Brookdale When, two good friends keep in touch, ties remain heart warmingly close, no matter what the distance 4,etween... ý- As a resuit. of one such friend- ship, and a ittle co-operation from someone within the Government of Estonia, to an Estonian Manager of a major Canadian nursery, four skilled tradesmen will work and live in the Newtonville area for eight months. Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Ltd., one of the most advanced, mechanized nurseries of its kind in North America, was approached with the idea of having several workers corne over to work with the Company, to gain more knowledge and expertise in their field, thus enhancing their own business once they returned home to the small country at the northern tip of Russia. WelI, BTN agreed; they have business relations already with Holland and Germany. Early April saw five strapping Estonians arrive in Newtonville. To a country foreign in many ways to them. After a three week orienta- tion, the fifth member of the group, who had acted as translator and co- ordinator, returned home, as ar- ranged. Jaak Laidoner, Indrek Jalakas, Lembit Aabna and Vello Lugna, with wives and children behind, have begun quite an experience in their lives... They will work in the fields, greenhouses and cold storage areas of Brookdale Treeland, primarily at the 600 acre site here in Newton- ville, and on occasion at the Bowmanville location. The foursome are living in a house in Newcastle Village, spon- sored by Brookdale. Life is proving to be extremely different, to say the least, according to these visitors. One of their greatest pleasures is go- ing grocery shopping; the choice, the abundance, the freedom is quite overwhelming! They understand English well, but still find difficulty choosing suitable'words and phrases to ex- press themselves. However their charming personalities, enthusiasm and appreciative nature will surely make for an increasingly enjoyable six months in Canada to corne. Thank you Jaak, Indrek, Lembit and Vello, and to Brookdale's Dave Brown for allowing us to share in this very interesting -little scoop."~ Best Wishes! Little Scoops..
