In his letter Scott states that the "financial interests of a large cor- poration appear to systemnatically be given preference over legitimate interests of the local community and the environment." The com- mittee also objects to the haste in which the- infill proposai is bein8 processed. -It also fears if the infill is given approval it will be the foot in theýdoor for the major expansion of 100 acres for landfill. Laidiw-, - -ing approval for an infill of the existing landfill and through a separate application an expansion to a new 100 acre site. Scott asked the people of the Town and Region-to object to the Ministry of the Environment who designated th e Environmental Pro- tection Act rather than a hearing under the more stringent En- vironmental Assessment Act.* The Minister of the Environment has also stated there i s no need for a hearing for a proposed sewer line from the landfill site to Newcastle providing the landfill is approved. We fait to see the logic behind this move states Scott. The issue of the letter was brought before the législature by Sam Cureatz for the local Commit- tee.
