4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, Fehruary 7, 1990 SP-ORT Oron o J&M Custom Tykes win weekend pair On Friday, February 2, 1990 Orono Tykes played host to Newcastle and skated to a 3-1 vic- toi y. Afi-er a close but scoreless first period, Orono opened the scoring in the second of a goal by Tyler Robinson, assisted by Brodie Hut- ton and Jeffrey Thompson. Orono again scored in the second period, this lime Jeffrey Thompson scored on a nice set-up from Tyler Robin- son and Bradley Copping. But Newcastle didn't give up and came back and scored a goal to cut Orono's lead to 2 to 1. But with time running out in the second period, Brandon Caruanagot the final goal of the game.assisted by Tyler Robinson and Christopher Bouley. Newcastle had several good scoring chances but Andrew Beacock played an excellent game in goal a s did all the Orono players . On Saturday, -February 3rd Orono travelled to, Bowmanville bo play A & R Flooring Tykes, and handed Bowmanville a 4-0 loss. Orono opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Jacob Bon- nietta, unassisted. The first period ended 1-0 Orono, and there was no scoing in the second period. In the third Orono got an unassisted goal by Jonathan Black. Orono then scored again this time Dave Lam- mers scored an unassisted goal. The final goal of the gRame and his se- cond of the gamne was scored by Jonathan Black wth assist by Tyler Robinson. Brandon Caruana played a strong game in net for the shut-out. Once again all the players put forth a strong effort in earning a victory. Orono Novice start Feb. blues with a Win On Friday, February 3rd the Orono U.C.H.L. Novice teami hosted the Bewdley U.C.H.L. Novice team and came away with a 7-1 victory. ln the first period bo1lý Orono players and Bewdley players played competitive hockey, Ieeping both goaltenders busy. After seven minutes of play Orono's Andrew Reid scoring, assists goinig t Mur- phy Irvine and Kyle Beacock. Then four minutes later Orono lit up the scoreboard with Steve Foster scor- ing assisting was Andrew Reid and Ryan Schoep (who incidentally was taking a break from playing goalie). In the second period Orono's Murphy Irvinie wedged his way past the Bewdley players to score unassisted. This was the only goal scored in the second, although Bewdley kept fighting for the puck. Going into the third period Steve Foster scored on a passing play màde by Murphy Irvine. Bewdley kept on trying with their efforts paying off as they got One past Orono's net mninder Jonas Bonnet- ta, who put on a fine performance,. stopping numerous shots. . The rest of the third period belonged to Orono. Scoring for Orono was Steve Foster, assisted by Jamnie Richter and Jeremny Pare; Steve Foster (for his fourth) assisted by Murphy Irvinie and Clint Hawkshaw. Last goal was scored by Andrew Reid (for bis second) unassisted.., Even though Bewdley had an off nigbt their team seemned to play a stronger game than when we played two monthsago. Orono Novice at this-time have moved up from fifth place to fourth in the United Counties Hockey League. Keep up the good work players, as the playoffs-are flot far away. Athough we had beaten this team before, wben they went right down the ice and scored on the opening face off we were a little concerned. The first period turned out to be the big period for the scoring as Orono came right back to score three unanswered goals. On the first it was Bobby Wtberidge from Pauil Lanciers and Greg Bester. Bobby also; scored the second goal on a nice rink long rush, unassisted. Thie third goal came from Greg Beter assisted by Bobby Witberidge. The second and third period we re scoreless but flot withoul their mnomentsý. Both goaltenders were excellent as they shut out the oppos,- ing offen,;es. The final score was 3-1 for Orono.
