Mrs. Petch was completely taken by surprise by the delightful family gathering in her honour. She received many callers during the day, also was the recipient of gifts, numerous cards, letters. Spring flowers decorated the rooms. One of her gifts, an appropriately decorated birthday cake, was shared by all, Among those present were her seven children, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, some were unable to attend. Mrs. Petch enjoys good health, does all her own housework and is keenly interested in all community affairs. Those attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Honey and son Lyle, Mrs. 'Thomas McDonald and three children, Sgt. and Mrs. John White and son Jimmie. GIRL GUIDE NOTES Attendance at the weekly meeting of the Colborne Girl Guides on March 20th was not as good as usual, owing to home study for exams, and some sickness. Guides were called to order and reviewed, after which the various patrols broke off to study. Most girls are working for Second Class Badges and some for First Class. Games were played and later the Guide Captain explained the meanings of the Guide Laws. After the usual campfire, the Company was dismissed. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kernaghan returned home last Thursday afternoon after spending the past three months in Florida. Mr. Jack Gifford, Toronto, spent last weekend at bis home, East Colborne. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hetherington, Belleville, visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Teal and Bonnie. Mr. and Mrs. George Maskell, sons George and Reggie, visited Mr. and Mrs. Albert Maskell, Peterboro, last Sunday. They attended the opening of St. Alban's Anglican Church. Miss Jeanne Hay, Toronto, spent last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hay. Miss Norma Rutherford, nurse-in-training, has completed her course at the Children's Memorial Hospital, Montreal and has returned to Belleville General Hospital. Miss Olive Kaiser who is a member of St. Pauls Anglican Church choir, was guest soloist at St. Barnabas Anglican Church on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Davis visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Hess, Hastings, on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. James Kernaghan, Toronto, spent last Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Wm. Kernaghan. Mrs. Gordon Honey is spending few days this week in Markham with hgr parens, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mr. Matthew Waite, Kingston, ited his mother, Mrs. J. G. Waite, last weekend. They also visited Mrs. Waite's brother, Mr. and Mrs. M. Winters, Lindsay, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. David Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wilson, all of Coe Hill, Ont., spent last Sunday with Mrs. Arthur Danford. Mr. Roger Davis of Islington spent Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Teal and Bonnie were guests last Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Bleecker, Foxboro. Guests on Sunday, March 25th, of Mrs. M. Papineau, were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Papineau, Bowmanville; Mr. Chas. Papineau, Sturgeon Falls; Mrs. C. Podell, New York City. This week Miss Janet Theobald was tendered two showers in honour of her forthcoming wedding, Saturday, March 31st, one at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Teal, Tuesday ning, March 27th, and the other at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Myles, Wednesday evening, March 28th. counts of these will appear in. next week's edition. SUCCESSFUL CROKINOLE PARTY . The members of Colborne United Church Choir held a Crokinole party in the Sunday School Hall, Friday evening, March 23rd. Fourteen tables took part in the play. Everyone had a good time, choir members wer pleased with the gratifying results, they plan to hold another one in April. The proceeds to be put in the organ repair fund. Delicious refreshments were served. The evening's prize winners were Ladies' high, Mrs. Tom McDonald, Junior Ladies' high, Miss Nadine Irvine; Gent's high, Mr. G. Smith; Junior Gent's high, Mr. Norman Taylor. HAS BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR SISTER A birthday party was held recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stimers, Dundonald, in honour of Mrs. Stimers' sister, Mrs. M. Waters, who was taken much by surprise. A turkey dinner was served, euchre was played1 to complete a most enjoyable evening. Guests present included : Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Stimers, Cobourg; Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Feather, daughter Brenda, Belleville; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Auger, Milton; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Honey, Dundonald.
