continued from p.20 Cabin is to be used by the public The restoration and move took place between December 2013 and May 2014 with Mark noting the Town is pleased with the results. "We think it looks fantastic," he said. "The carpentry work that was done on it was exceptional. They've really done a beautiful job restoring the exterior and interior as well. The planking floor is exceptional. The members of the (Lyon) family, who were there for the opening all remarked on what a beautiful job the contractors did." 25 | Friday, May 22, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com In 2008 the Town passed a master plan for the west side of the Sixteen Mile Creek, which identified the cabin as heritage structure needing attention. Mark said that because shoreline repair work was anticipated for the site on which the cabin stood, it was relocated within the park and moved onto a newly constructed foundation. The Town also replaced rotten logs, the roof and chimney of the registered heritage property as well as numerous windows. The cabin is currently empty and has no heating or electricity, however Mark said the Town hopes to rectify that in the near future as the Town hopes to make it available for public use.
