www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, May 22, 2015 | 24 O Oakville Public Library introduces new Seniors' Series n Wednesday, the Oakville Public Library (OPL) held its first drop-in session of its Seniors' Series program. The series, new this year, offers older adults an opportunity to gain information on a wide variety of useful topics while providing a relaxed, social setting to meet new people and share ideas. The library's current strategic plan focuses heavily on enhancing literacy and improving access to local content, which is reflected in the series' subject matter. Its primary focus is to increase Oakville seniors' awareness and knowledge of local community and library resources that relate to health and wellness, financial and digital literacy as well as safety. Every Wednesday for the next five weeks, residents are invited to drop by the Central Branch auditorium, 120 Navy St., between 11 a.m. to noon, to take part in the sessions. Though the free program is aimed at older adults aged 55 and older, everyone is welcome to attend and no registration is required. Topics for the next five weeks have been predetermined, however, attendees will have the opportunity to provide input on what subjects will be addressed in the future. · May 27: Driving Safety and How to Ace Your Seniors' Driver's Test -- with speaker Keith Black of Wheels Driver Training; · June 3: Getting to Know Your Digital Library -- a look at OPL 's free digital resources; · June 10: Accessing the Health Services You Need -- getting to know your Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), with speaker Hermes Clipa from the Mississauga Halton CCAC; · June 17: Ask Granny (free genealogical resources for seniors) and Genealogy Resources from OPL; · June 24: Digital `making' demonstration and hands-on fun with OPL 's new technologies.
