Daniel Marsh, resident of district for 66 years passes away - Well known to many people throughout Ontario - Head of firm.
Daniel Marsh, a pioneer of the Grimsby district and a familiar figure in the business life of the town, died at his home on Robinson Street north, on Friday afternoon, March 17, 1922, in his 82nd year. Mr. Marsh was born in England in 1840, coming to Canada in 1856, landing in Grimsby on Dec. 2 of that year. He at once started to learn the carpenter trade with Matthew Bailey at Winona. In 1861 he started in the building and contracting [trade] for himself, and has continued at the business continuously since. About 1885 he went in with E.W. Bowslaugh in the Grimsby Park Planing Mill, and in 1891 assumed full control. In 1896 he built the Grimsby Planing Mill. A man of sterling worth, he has prospered, and a legion of friends and business associates will miss him. He was a life long Conservative in politics, and a member of the Methodist Church. To mourn his demise there remain four sons and four daughters: J. Albert and Frederick M., associated with him in business; William M. of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Wesley of Fort Myers, Fla.; Mrs. Ella Corman, Misses Cora and Flora of Grimsby and Minnie of Toronto. The funeral took place on Monday, March 20 to the Fifty cemetery, the Rev. Dr. A.J. Irwin conducting the services. The pallbearers were David Allan, P.S. Benn, E. Drury, J.D. Russ, C. Shafer, J.L. Snyder.
