Mutton, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mutton, Miss Nellie Mutton and Messrs Hugh and Gordon Mutton attended the turkey supper at Monganston on Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lyall McCullough and children visited relatives and friends in Oshawa on Sunday. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilce were Mr. and Mrs. Ward Lee and Andy, and Mr. Bert Wilce, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Eddy and boys, and Mr. Austin Eddy visited them on Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Dickens and family, Colborne, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Dunk on Sunday afternoon, Paul was a weekend guest. Mr. and Mrs. John Mutton and family, Colborne, and Mr. George Mutton were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Mutton, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Purdy and family, Grafton, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Purdy, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dale and grils were supper guests. Miss Wendy Mutton was a Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Mutton. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gillespie and Robert visited Mrs. W. Gillespie, at Salem on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ferguson entertained at a suprise birthday party on Sunday in honour of Mrs. J. Mc-Cracken. Their guests for dinner and supper were: Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mutton, Campbellford; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mutton, Colborne; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert McLaughlin and family, Colborne! Tel., loan 500.00 Road accts.. to' amount of ........ 827.79 Council adjourned to meet Monday December 16th, at 1.00 p.m. BARN BURNED Fire broke out in the barn belonging to Mr. Earl McCormick Sunday evening, November 17th. There was .,ksome hay and grain in the barn. In the basement were a large number of chickens belonging to Mr. Frank Jones. It is reported that only one chicken died, all others were saved. There were many who assisted in carrying these chickens to safety. Colborne Fire Brigade answered the call promptly. The fire was a large one, flames could be seen clearly at Cobourg and PresquTIe Point. The building was totally destroyed. UPPER CANADA BIBLE SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING (Held over from last week) The annual meeting of the Upper Canada Bible Society was held in the United Church Sunday Nov. 10th at 8:15 p.m. Rev. F. Taylor opened the meeting with a song service, after which he offered prayer. The scripture lesson was read from I John I. The meeting was then handed over to the president, Mr. Earl Thompson. Minutes of the last meeting were read. Rev. C. R. Rudd then took charge of the election of officers for the coming year. Mr. Earl Thompsor was re-elected president, and Mrs Gordon Ramer re-elected secretary-treasurer. Mr. Rudd thanked the president, secretary and ministers for their co-operation. He then gave a few brief remarks about the Bible Society and the work it is doing in translating the scriptures in all countries. He said we are facing a great crisis. 30,000,000 more people are learning to read every year, all over the world there is an increased demand. Churches are growing in every country. They need more Bibles. The Bible is a wonderful Book, but we must give is a chance.
