HAS YOUR COMMUNITY A LOCAL PROPOSE BRIGHTON ANNEX PRESQU'ILE POINT PARK AREA Proposal that the municipality of Brighton village annex the bay shore at Presqu'ile Point is currently being made by the Provincial Government. Such a move would give Brighton jurisdiction over and responsibility for all cottages and business est lishments fronting on the bay, well as those which although they do not have water frontage actually face the bay, where there is a double of cottages with the road between them, that is. All the rest of the Point area, which must be nine-tenths of it and includes the lighthouse end would remain a Provincial Park. Those cottages within the park area would eventually be taken over by the Department of Lands and Forests for their use. In return for the taxes to be derived from this wedge of land, the municipality would be responsible for a long connecting road and all such services as that part of the municipality quired. Arrangements would have to be made with Rural Hydro and Brighton Municipal Telephone System to continue serving the Point or else Brighton Public Utilities and Bell Telephone would be required to provide service to the Point. Presumably the Department of Lands and Foreets would purchase electricity and telephone service from whatever agencies were supplying it to cottages on the bay shore.--Courier-Advocate, Tues., Jan. 15, 1957.
