Williams, William Willoughby (Died)

The death occurred at his home, Robinson Street South, on Thursday, Jan. 5, 1922 of William Willoughby Williams, in his 82nd year. He was taken ill two weeks previous and on the Sunday morning preceding his death he suffered a stroke from which he never rallied. The late Mr. Williams was born on Feb. 1, 1840, at Manotich, near Ottawa, in Carlton County, Ontario, and spent his early life there, when Ottawa was called Bytown after Colonel By, a prominent figure in the construction of the Rideau Canal and when the first wagon was heard to rumble (about 1850) over roads then made passable. After completing his schooling, he started teaching in January 1862, and after a short tenure went to Toronto and attended Normal School. He resumed teaching from 1863 to 1867, when he purchased a bakery business at Tweed, Ont.
