The two defencemen, both of whom helped the minor midget AAA Rangers win the OHL Cup Showcase Tournament in 2013, were among 17 players named to the national U18 team last week. Spencer, who was picked third overall by the Peterborough Petes in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, won gold with Canada at last year's U18 Ivan Hlinka tournament. The former Loyola high school student scored six goals and added 24 assists in 67 games this season for the Petes. Capobianco, a Mississauga native and the seventh pick in the 2013 OHL draft, collected 10 goals and 30 assists in 68 regular-season games with the Sudbury Wolves. The U18 worlds will be held April 16-26 in Zug and Lucerne. Canada will face Latvia, Czech Republic, Finland and Switzerland during preliminary-round play.
