Mena Hardy brings southern rock to Fionn MacCool's Musician Mena Hardy is bringing her take on southern rock to Oakville Saturday (April 11). Hailing from her hometown of Alexandria, Ont., Hardy is the lead singer of her band and was the runner up in the rock category for the international John Lennon Songwriting Competition in 2012. She has also opened for the band Lighthouse. The free show will be held at Fionn MacCool's, 350 Dundas St. E., and goes from 10 p.m. until closing. Hardy also performed earlier in March at the Oakville's Sixth Line Pub and Sports Bar. "Her musical gifts went misunderstood and unappreciated throughout her formative years. She found herself and her old-school southern rock sound long after being made to feel outcast," according to the biography on her website. "A former waitress with a university degree in psychology, Hardy doesn't fit stereotypes well. She merely defies them and the odds in overachieving in multiple facets of her life." Hardy has a self-titled debut CD and released a five-track EP titled It's Been Mean & Hard, which was engineered and produced by Brad Keay and features Pat Rush. Her music can be heard on radio, TV and the movie Club Utopia.
