Mann had Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer most commonly found in children and teenagers that often spreads quickly to other parts of the body, drastically reducing survival rates. Over the next 10 months, Mann would undergo two rounds of chemotherapy. Between them, he would have surgery to remove the upper 18 centimetres of the humerus bone in his left arm. He lost 27 pounds, dropping to 143. He lost his hair. And he was told he would never play baseball again. Earlier this month, Mann decided to revisit those days. On March 9, he celebrated the fifth anniversary of the day he was told he was cancer free.
