National Exhibition Centre the showground MaslL complete model circus in Canada FREDERICTON CP The National Exhibition Centre here became Showground when ONeill Bros Circus moved In for fall stay Its all quite simple ex Plained Bob Guthrie director of the centre You see ONeill Bros Circus is miniature exe cuted throughout at onesix teenth scale that is three uarters of an inch equals one oot So it goes into our main exhibition hall very nicely It is the most complete model circus In Canada and one of com paratively few on the North American Continent The model is joint effort of the ONeill family When son Hugh was junior member 20 years ago father James built him rough circus wagon for Christmas This amused the tot for time until brother John came into the family act and began to encroach on the playtime of the original wagon So the elder ONeill resumed the building of circus wagons At first he made models of fa mous tableau wagons from plans provided by the Circus Model Builders of America of which all the ONeill family now are members Then he went into the working ve hiclescages baggage wagons pole wagon spool wagons for the big tap canvas generator wagons stakeand chain wagon jackandstringer wagons seat wagons boiler wagon with complete com missary and two steam cal liopes Meanwhile Gilberte Mrs had broken number of sewing machine needles and tried her patience on com plete set of canvas tents for the growing show The roduc tion at the National Ex bition Centre here was that of 20car show as it might have red in any of the smaller cities and towns of the country back in the 19205 or 1930s In many types of modelling such as railroads old automo biles or ships you could buy the sets and Simply assemble the pieces according to the instruc tions Jimmy said but not with model circuses There are not enougi buffs working on circus models to make ready made miniature sets profitable to manufacturer can buy model animals at times and keep watching the toy shops for little human fig ures that can adapt for my purposes Otherwise the raw materials are just matter of the workers own resourceful ness Mostl its an operation of jigsaws ue pots plywood paint brushes and downright patience In recent years ONeill Bros Circus has made several ap pearances at the Fredericton exhibition METZ France CP Que bec Premier Rene Levesque said Tuesday he knew breakdowns are not uncommon The wires might come off Once even broke the fore arms They say theres limit of 25 pounds for each arm but lift twice that PCE Pen know they are there all the time There are rub spots and sometimes get isters SMEEIASURE SET This is the first year he has been back running the farm by himself His brother Larry helped out in 1976 and his father helped with morning chores Two younger sisters 12 and 15 REVOLVING UTILITY now live at the farm and help as do some of the neighbors CUP RACK SANDER but Murray does all the combining COULDNT LIFT PAIL After first came back to the farm couldnt even lift mpgumw ggpzvc pail or handle bale It got me down at first but then found lhwas slowly coming back to where felt was doing some ng The problem is mental as much as physical If guy can overcome that There were several physical things he had to learn to do all over againsuch as dressing shaving eating and writing Even something as seemineg simple as opening door was major challenge If Im downtown and cant open door knob just have to stand there and wait for someone to come along When Im at home Ill get on my back and open it with my feet but cant very well do that downtown You hear that when you lose something you gain something else Its true for me because Ive got lot more strength in my legs than used to have USES FEET Murray uses his feet to change gears on the tractors and to operate some of the other switches in the cab He has put an attachment on the steering wheel to allow him to steer with his artificial hands and has extended some of the hydraulic switches to make them easier to reach Something he once enjoyed but cant do anymore is repair and set up machinery Repair is difficult especially where its something small and you have to feel your way around always liked setting up machinery but now its so timeconsuming you really have to learn patience It takes twice as long to use the tools he once operated so WOODEN FORK SPAGHETTI SERVING NAPKIN ALUMINUM KITCHEN FRENCH FRY easily He uses everything around him to make it as easy as SALAD BOWLS AND SPOON TONGS HOLDERS SPADE CUTTER possiblerubbing the adjustable wrench against tire to get the right settin or operating greasegun by leaning in to it with his whole ody didnt think Id ever be able to hook up the hydraulics Its lot work but then everythings lot of work work up sweat just driving Murray admits he sometimes feels down and thinks of quitting But the feeling passes and he goes out and does the work that has to be done STAINLESS STEEL 01 ALUMINUM STEEL GRATER BISCUIT
