the oxamlnor 8aturdy Oct 29 1977 Points to ponder Only the Lord can satisfy By DOROTHY KILBURN years without hearing Gods word preached and there was hunger in her heart which could not be satisfied with bread Her name was Mrs Thompson and she had come from England to settle near Peter borough when Peterborough was just one She had been three house by the river One day she heard that the Methodist Circuitriding preacher Rev Ansen Green was going to pneach 15 miles away She walk ed the 15 miles to hear him and her heart was warmed by his words She promised the preacher that if he would come to her cabin on an appointed day she would see to it that he had good congregation He agreed 0n the appointed day she gave her family their breakfast then set out to invite the peo ple in her township to come to her cabin at the appointed hour and hear the man of God Returning to her settlement she noticed the hoof prints of horse leading into the settle ment because no one in the settlement own ed horse she knew it to be the horse of the minister The thought of hearing the man of God preaching Gods word in her humble cabin overwhelmed her and she sank in gratitude to her knees her eyes filled with tears and she kissed the ground over which the man of God had rode There she renewed the covenant which she had made with her God in England that she would do all in her power to spread the gospel in the Ontario bushland Mr Green preached in the 15 by 20 cabin to goodly group of folks some of whom for want of better seat were perched on loom Mrs Thompson had in the house Years later when the her home he had the pleasure of preaching preacher returned to the word in comfortable little church Calvary Weekly meditation There is always enough time for the important things By REV CARL BULL Free Methodist Church The ministry of Jesus pro vides us with the example of putting first things first The crowds began to build up more and more demands were made on Christs time Yet there were still only 24 hours in each day What could he do He concen trated on things that were real iy important and didnt bother with the rest Many need to cut out of their lives things that are not actual ly helping Gods work in our community They have made themselves so busy that they have no time for things that really count Question Are you too busy for someone in need Going back to the Bible story we find the motherinlaw of Peter sick with high fever The crowds could wait here was so meone who needed His help He went to her immediately and through His power she was healed Time that you give to someone in need can be of heal REV CARL BULL ing significance Question Are you too busy for Gods service It had been long day and at evening time there was still erected on the Thompson farm This pious and devout woman comforted me much and encouraged me to greater acts of self denial Mr Thompson said Mrs Thompson is not the only person who experiences soul hunger We are all soul hungry but few of us realize it We are aware of longing an emptiness and we attempt to fill that ethv place with manv things We go to show have ni few beers new dress or suit but the next morning the emptiness remains That emptiness can only be filled with friendship with God We were created to war ship Him to enjoy Him to be friends with Him He has made the way for us to come to Him by the sacrifice of His Son on the Cross of ght out on the town As we give ourselves our lives to Jesus Christ wewill find that the emptiness goes out of our lives and we will realize the truth of the statement am come that ye might have life and that ye might have it more abundantly large crowd all the city at the door to see Jesus Even at the end of hectic day Jesus made time to be about His Fathers business Yet we often make the mistake of crowding out Gods work with other things Lets assess what ser vice to God is and give it the proper place in our time Question Are you to busy for thought and prayer Again the story of Jesus says that the next morning rising up early he went to quiet place and there He prayed This was the only time in his crowded life when He could count on being alone and undisturbed The busier your life the more essential your times of quiet become Prayer Lord save me from the barrenness of busy life May my hours be filled with things that help others and glorify You Remember there is always time for what you really want todo busy five years awaits new Salvation Army general By CHRISTINE PISARSKI LONDON lCPi Winston Churchill once said the one ar
