old antiques came across some interesting events in the history of golf The first golf tournament in history was played in 1860 at Prestwick Scotland It was 36 holes medal play but instead of medal the winner was given belt emblematic of the championship It was to become forever the property of the time of year and some are catering to tournaments almost thought it might be interesting to find out when the first tournament in history took place so delving into my sports Kely sacked as Leafs coach TORONTO CP President Harold Ballard of Maple leaf Gardens said Thursday Red Kelly will not last oppor tunity for area harness racing fans to take in regular Friday night program There will be racing Friday Aug 19 and Sept 30 when the Ontario Sires Stake races have already been scheduled Earl Rowe Junior General Manager of Barrie Raceway announced recently that the Raceway has asked for permis sion to stop the Friday racing cards Due to an increasing shor tage of good available racing stock and in keeping with Bar rie Raceways intention of of fering high calibre racing to the public the program will be cancelled Rowe said The elimination of Friday racing will take effect June 24 but the Raceway will continue to hold races every Wednesday and Saturday All tracks are having the same problem Rowe added We at Barrie Raceway believe that it will be better for the public the horsemens purses and this track in the future to offer good racing twice week and eliminate the third day We are confident too that strong Wednesday and Satur day program will enable the track to keep
