Canadiana Log Cabin Goldwater The organization aims to preserve the house built in 1840 by Archibald Woodrow who came from Scotland to raise family The interest in the organization has increased along with interest in an tiques and local history says Ruth Woodworth president People attended the picnic from as far away as Wau baushene Moonstone North River and Honey Harbor The house is the only one so well preserved from that time says Mrs Woodworth After Woodrow owned it Vic Turner of Coldwater owned it and later Art Johnston of Orillia The Canadiana bought it in 1967 The organization will have flea market July 16 at 10 am and will run historical tours of the building from Ju ly 20 to Aug 17 at 2pm The vicepresident of the organization is Sue Lucas with treasurers Cora Lane and Mrs Woodworth More and more people are interested in antiques says Mrs Lucas collector of an tiques who says she is also interested in local history Eventually they wish to have more activities to en courage more their son and his wife Lloyd and Margaret Small Base Borden ltoad on Sunday to honor their parents on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary Recipients of gifts flowers many cards and congratulatory messages from Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau Premier Bill Davis Federal conservative leader Joe lark and local members of parliament Mr and Mrs Small also had an opportunity to recall many happy occasions through the years in the movies shown by their soninlaw and to visit with relatives after delicious evening meal Guests were present from Maxwell Dundalk Shelbourne St Catharines for 40 years Both enjoy activities of the Golden Age Club with Mr Small encouraging the playing of shuffleboard popular pastime during the many winters they spent in Florida Although gardening was left to his wife during the many years on the farm Mr Small at 89 now maintains garden which is surrounded with rows of dwarf marigolds and zinnias grown from seed he has saved the year before and it is not surprising that he has prize Winning entries in the local hor ticultural flower show More than 80 Barrie Safety patrollers took part Sunday in the patrollers first annual superstars competition picnic held by the Barrie City Police and the Kinsmen Club of Bar me This is the first picnic held for safety patrollers said com mittee chairman Uri Hess of the Kinsmen Club We hope to have other picnics to encourage more children to become safety patrollers he said On the committee with Hess were Nick Borysenko Leo Ranzello and lack Angle Patroilcrs from 14 schools took part in sack races relays and obstacle courses during the afternoon event held at Moisons Park Overall winner of the events was Steele Street School Allan dale Heights was second with Johnson Street School third Other first he intended to take an evening course at Fanshawe College but one of the pro fessors there convinced him to register fulltime At first was very reluctant and apprehensive because knew nothing about the pro gram and because didnt know how the young students would react to me he said The results were sufficiently encouraging for him to switch to degree program at Western got four As and one in first year he said My grades have gone down bit since then he added with grin They still remain respectable enough for graduate school however like the reception got at Western from both the teachers and the boys and girls in my classes They made me feel part of it he said Jones said it took him eight years to get enough credits for pass degree and an honors certificate because he was at tending part time His weakest area was writing skills he said adding that his daughter who works at the law library at Western helped him just went from grade to grade course to course and here am Jones said his university education has given him self confidence and broader realm of thought firm believer in education he said he does not recommend leaving school for the young people of today not even for those interested in farming If were to start all over again in farming would take course in agriculture he said Jones has paid for most of his courses However for the past two years he has
