Goodtriend steals hubby Dear Ann Landers Although have been faithful reader for many years never understood why person with serious problem would consult you rather than seek profes sional help Now Im eating my words My husband and were married for 12 years It was hap py and satisfying marriage or so thought We had four children all planned My husband was terrific father About five months ago our fourth child was born asked close friend to help with the other children while was in the hospital My husband and enjoyed her company and the children absolutely adored her It got to the point where we became threeparent family Now its oneparent family Three weeks ago my husband and my friend shes 10 years his junior ran off together now am trying to raise four small children alone Please Ann warn your readers to beware of helpful friends In the meantimeany suggestionsBum Rap Dear BR Some friend But bear in mind dear she didnt hit your husband over the head with club and drag him off would not be one bit surprised it eventually Daddy asked to come home In fact Id be willing to bet on it Sounds as if he wigged out temporarily Let me know will you Dear Ann Landers thought you were unfair to the mother who sent for your booklet on teenage sex and han ded it to her daughter You said Teenagers resent it when their parents send for something and say READ THIS Our mother sent for several of your booklets and gave them to us to read She often opened the newspaper to the page with your column and left it where my sister and would be sure to see it Mom had very conservative views on sex and it was difficult for her to discuss certain things with us We respected her for seeking outside help in areas where she felt inadequate We knew she cï¬EdTWhats more we got lot of good ad vice from your booklets and your column When the time came for us to make sexual choices we were wellinformed and capable of directing our own lives So please take back what you said Ann There must be lots of other mothers around like oursPatty Dear Patty You are right was wrong Mea culpa and dozen lashes with wet noodle for 01 Annie Thanks for the comeuppance needed that Dear Ann Landers have problem and feel the only way to solve it is by writing to you and having this letter printed in the newspaper am employed in an office that is fairly large but the people must work in close quarters The woman who stts next to me has very offensive odor In fact it ts un bearable Several of us have discussed it but no one knows what to do Subtle hints dont help Im writing to you in the hope you will print this letter and perhaps she will get the mes sageIn Need 0f Fresh Air Dear In Need She will not get the message until someone gives it to her suggest that several employees in your office clip this column and mail it to her And since this problem is one hear about at least dozen times day you can be sure you will have helped great many people across the country Ermg Bombggk What re children was autographing books at one of those little iattan tables in the book department of Midwest department store when found myself looking into the saddest eyes had ever seen The doctor wanted me to buy something that would make melaughshe said hesitated about signing the book It would have taken corrective surgery to make that woman laugh Is it big problem asked The whole line was eavesdropping Yes My daughter is getting married The line cheered Is she 12 or something Shes 24 said the woman biting her lip And hes wonderful man Its just that she could have stayed home few more years Tire woman behind her looked wistful Weve moved three times and our son keeps finding us Some women have all the luck Isnt it curious how some mothers dont know when theyve done good jobror when its basically finished They figure the longer the kids hang around the better parents they are guess it all depends on how you regard children in the first place How do you regard yours Are they like an appliance The more you have the more status you command Theyre under warranty to perform at your whim for the first 18 years then when they start costing money you get rid of them Are they like usexl car You maintain it for years and when youre ready to sell it to semeone else you feel great responsibility to keep it running or it reflects on you Thats why some parents never let their children marry good friends Are they like an endowment policy You invest in them for 18 or 20 years and then for the next 20 years they return divi dends that support you in your declining years or they suffer from terminal guilt Are they like finely gilded mirror that reflects the image of their owner in every way On the day the owner looks in and sees flaw crack distortion one tiny idea or at titude that is different from his own he casts it aside and declares himself failure see children as kites You spend lifetime tryin to get them off the ground You run with them until youre reath less they crash you add longer tail they hit the roof top You pluck them out of the spout you patch and com fort adjust and teach You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday theyll fly Finally they are airborne but they need more string and you keep letting it out and with each twist of the ball of twine there is sadness that goes with the joy because the kite becomes more distant and somehow you know that it wont be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together and soar as it was meant to soar free and alone Only then do you know that you did your job Pollys pointers Getting rid of Silverfish DEAR POLLY Can you tell me ltow to get rid of Silverfish Is there anything that would attract them to one spot so it would be easier to exterminate them At present they pop out first one place and then another bathroom living room kitchen etc MAC DEAR MAC From what have been able to learn sllverftsh hide during the day unless the object behind which they are hiding is moved They move quickly and are hard to catch An infestation of them can play havoc with many household Items particularly papers or fabrics that contain string and foods that have starch or sugar In them Spray the places where they have been seen and around the water pipes with household insec ticide and then dust on pyrethrum powder Good luck POLLY DEAR POLLY My Pet Peeve is with the cashiers at the grocery stores that do not seem to know when an item is on sale and charge one the original price Sometimes it does not seem to pay to buy things you think are on sale MRS TRP DEAR POLLY read that someone wanted to know how to get rid of fleas in the house They should sprinkle dry sul phur on the floor and then vacuum it up in the morning There will be no more fleas My sister in California did this and it worked just perfectly for her MRS EIT DEAR POLLY found that if put toothpick in house plant container can tell if it needs water If there is no dirt on the toothpick even after making one full turn before removing it the plant needs water TINA 44er gt
