munity information service Should it publicize its services meeting on Wednesday called by the Information Bar rie committee to ask local child care workers how the service can help them more erupted in Jacksons words that Information Barrie was hiding its light under bushel Each suggested more rigorous campaigning to make Barrie area residents aware of the service David Smith Information Barrie committee chairman disagreed describing the ser vices role as casting light into the dark comers Juding from the number of calls just as many people in Barrie know about this service as people in other cities about their services Smith said Gwyn Speers who operates the service out of Barrie Public Library estimated Information Barrie receives 20 to 30 calls day She says all are kept con idential to protect callers When Information Barrie was set up by the library two years ago its responsibilities includ ed connecting area residents with existing resources in the community but also identify ing unmet needs said Smith The reason we exist at all he added is that the informa tion network in this city is very bad As people find the service useful they will know about it The agencies in Barrie are now phoning us back providing us with new information Smith is against publishing at regular intervals the types of calls Information Barrie receives and the subjects discussed If we put
