separate and distinct unit should be built in the area without recom mendation from this board the board reaffirms its position that subject to suitable finan cial arrangements being negotiated it course to help them deal with pupils By TERRY FIELD Of The Examiner Seventyfive Simcoe County teachers are among 2000 provincewide currently taking course designed to aid them in dealing with the Karen Hobbs 22yearold Barrie student is coordinator of the program which will be carried on by the citys recreation depart ment in the fall Volunteers are now being brought together to help the handicapped said Miss Hobbs interviews with various groups during the first six weeks of There have also been the program said Miss Hobbs The key goal is to get the handicapped in tegrated and to help them gain some self confidence she said Activities will include swimming crafts and number of social activities she said she said said The major hurdle said Miss Hobbs is peo ples misconceptions The group must make them understand the needs of handicapped Its one reason program co ordinators intend to meet with clubs and organizations to discuss the program she The group is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working on such pro gram she said Miss Hobbs who got the job through the student manpower centre said the job has been interesting and enjoyable She will leave Barrie in the fall to take one year course at University of Toronto She intends to become teacher of children with learning disabilities Teacher Federation the pro gram focuses on ways to avoid confrontation motivating students methods for dealing with group and the individual within group the decision making process and so on There is lack of that kind of training in both the school system and at teacher training institutes says Andrew Lind say course instructor Ontarios teachersin training are taught how to teach but not how to cope or ways to increase their awareness of the students Lindsay said charged pay the instrucv tors and the courses creator Lindsay said Simcoe County teachers are taking the program at Cundles Heights Public School The first class was held Monday and the course runs through July 20 Experience 79 program finds work here for 107 Some 107 students are being employed throughout Simcoe County this summer under the provincial governments Ex perience 79 program Windsor woman who was trapped in tractortrailer cab after the truck flipped over on ramp leading to Highway 400 Rescue workers took about 20 minutes to cut open the cab freeing Heather Sorenson from
