thooxamlner mmJLnoaoJms Barrie moviemakers finish shooting The production team involved in the mak ing of the movie The Happy Time wound up its shooting schedule at the home of Doctor Scarth and at other regional locations recent ly The film set in the midthirties and shot entirely in Barrie and the surrounding area was described by producer Robert Newby as wholesome family entertainment light comedy with modern message and trip to the nostalgic past Newby went on to say that the story doesnt have single line of cynicism in it He added Unfortunately most Canadian movies are unbearably depressing Their makers have embraced the pessimistic ideologies of the leftist academic communitv You know what mean the idea that life in the western countries is hell all the people have lost their souls thre is no such thing as the individual and we can only be saved by some form of mindless collectivism The Happy Time is complete reversal of those ideas It affirms that the individuals life is important and can be good Does this mean that the movie is just another bit of escapism Not at all Newby said Sure there are fictional elements in the story but it deals with very modern issue Does young women have the right to her own life or is she obliged to sacrifice herself on the altars of other peoples expectations Dont get me wrong Newby continued Were not going to preach to the viewer The message is there but its so light youd hear dy know it We want the people of Barrie to enjoy themselves to take nostalgic view of the recent past watch the antique cars in ac tion and sympathise with the young people as they attempt to work out their problems Automobilss for the movie were supplied by the Historical Automobile Society of Canada Georgian Bay Chapter The mens formal costumes were supplied by prominent Bar rie mens wear store and the womens gowns wbre donated by Barrie residents The Happy Time will be shown on Cable Sept 16 at 730 pm Examiner photos by Lori Cohen and Nancy Figueroa WM
