raise any rugs looking for dirt However the letter from Throckmorton and Mehitabel could have helped me lot had it appeared 50 years sooner My parents gave me initials no name The result was that became introverted almost withdrawn knowing that everyone who entered my life would have some com ment like What no name You MUST have name While other kids wanted ball gloves and bikes would have settled for just having name to be REAL somebody Then came the legal forms credit cards military papers etc Can you believe they came back time and again marked Incomplete Sorry we must have your complete name No initials please First NAME middle initial Please read the instructions Because of my parents inability to foresee these com plications suffered needlessly Almost every day someone taskosy What is your REAL name What do the initials stand or So to all parents who are about to name child ask you not to force them to go through life silently questioning every time they look at you Why did you do this to me of Rockford Dear Rock Great letter Thanks on behalf of all the ini tialled nameless out there Dear Ann Landers applaud the confidential answer to Full Of Doubts think it spoke for many of us believe you said Some people who are institutionalized are more rational than many individuals who are walking the streets Id like to share my view of counselling and the sanity of some of us whove experienced it Its hard for me to believe the inability of people to speak to trained qualified therapist in order to help themselves sort out their lives Its also hard to realize that some people think if you have had or are having counselling you are either weak or little cuckoo first went for counselling eight years ago because was very unhappy and didnt believe my life had to be that way My goal is not bed of roses but would like fewer peaks and valleys more steadiness and selfconfidence believe Im great deal healthier than some of my rela tives and friends who continue to blame overbearing or weak spouses boringjob demanding parents ungrateful children and insensitive friends Therapy has taught me that am responsible for how feel It saved my sanity Still Battling Dear Battier You spoke to and for great many people today Thanks for an excellent message Your last paragraph is gem Dear Ann Landers Yesterday was visiting in the home of friend Her small child was sitting on her lap while we were enjoying cup of hot tea The youngster age two suddenly upset the tea cup and scalded herself on the arm My friend immediately put butter on the burn said it was something she had learned from her grandmother My mother always put cold towel on our burns What is the best thing to use Scranton Dear Scran Ice cubes Erma Bombeck Cant beat the system love the story about the Burbank appliance dealer who was having tough time getting rid of discarded appliances He kept putting them in the alley but there wasnt service organization or city truck in the world that would pick them up Finally he got brainstorm He marked price on them and by the end of the day they were all stolen Sometimes when you cant beat the system you just have to work within its confines found that out long ago with children The only way we could get one of the kids to wash and wax the car was to let him have it for date To get the lawn mowed we invested in riding mower They killed one another for the chance to cut the grass When my daughters bedroom became fire hazard all had to do was say Why dont you have slumber party Within hours she had brought it up to health standards It was sneaky but used to move leftovers by putting note on them saying DO NOT TOUCH THIS IS FOR THE PARTY The other day was at the phone when noted message scribbled in my husbands handwriting Carpers 6pm dinner Wednesday remembered the Carpers Her first name was either Bambi Popah Cupcake Sleepy Happy Sneezy or one of the dwarfs couldnt remember which was at her house once and felt like fool when ate strawberry in small dish in her bathroom and it was soap Well wasnt going to be caught with my decor down when they came to dinner set about replacing light bulbs in every room in the house bought live plants where before there had been death and brownness Cleared off the countertop Took the ironing board down bought set of matching glasses and took all the empty shampoo bottles out of the shower brought in the sled from the porch scratched THIS HOUSE IS BEING PATHOLLEI BY TWOYEAROLD decal off my kitchen window and took manger scene out of the bookcase My husband looked around and said forgot to tell you Were invited to the Carpcrs for dinner Wednesday had been beaten at my own game Pollys Pointers Why not try crayon discs DEAR POLLY help my husband who is custodian at church and while cleaning some drawers and closets found box after box of short broken crayons It seems shame to throw them away and wonder if any of the readers have any suggestions for what could do with them TS DEAR TS think the following letter from Cathy has good answer to your question POLLY DEAR POLLY You can make good sturdy crayons for the small ones by melting old crayon pieces in muffin pan that has been lined with cup cake liners Put just one color in each cup and then melt in warm oven When cool you will have crayon discs the youngsters can hold onto and that will not break so easily Aluminum liners work best One needs enough crayon pieces so the discs are at least onefourth of an inch thick the thicker the better CATHY DEAR POLLY have an easy way to clean the childrens slide so it is slippery for them to slide on Rub it with fairsized piece of waxed paper until all the dirt is off Then rub with clean piece of the waxed paper for nice slick finish MRSLB DEAR POLLY want to tell Mrs HW that have always gotten rid of ants by placing fresh mint leaves around where see them have told friends about this and when they did not have fresh mint they have bought dried mint leaves at the grocery and it worked This not only rids one of the ants but leaves pleasant smell in the house When we first moved into this house they used to crawl up the side of the house so planted fresh mint in that area and they disappeared DOROTHY DEAR POLLY and Mrs HW have always gotten rid of ants by tossing my used coffee grounds around the outside foundation of the house SHARON
