Ltd of Toron to until May 31 to come up with an acceptable redevelopment proposal for the Collier Street Fireball Despite an attempt by Aldermen Nelson Ganett and Hon Lynch Monday to get coun cii to call off the deal council stood by its decision Councils general committee last week gave the firm until the end of the month to arrange loan from the Ontario Heritage Foundation to pay for renovating option to extend the lease for an additional 10 years Historic will pay the city five per cent of its gross annual rental income for the lease Aid Garrett urged council to reverse the general committee decision saying Historic had un til May to present the city with an acceptable offer OFFERS TURNED DOWN But three offers the firm made were turned down because they required the city to rent space in the Fireball for an art gallery and theatre he said Aid Garrett said he feared council would give Historic extension after extension after extension to allow the firm to come up with suitable offer The debate on whether to save the building or tear it down has been going on since April 1973 he said Council has received numerous petitions one with 3400 signatures asking for demolition of the fireball Aid Garrett said but council cant seem to make up its mind it appears that the people who elected us to make deci sions are better at making deci sions than we are he said However Mayor Ross Archer said he will not support further extensions of the May 31 deadline Aid Ernie Rotman who led councils opposition to Historics three proposals re quiring the city to rent space in the
