reimbursed by the township for the animals coun cil decided Wednesday The animal deaths created much furor in Alcona Beach as residents and Mrs Hannes claimed dog killed the chickens Township livestock evaluator Blythe Black and Roy Bridge bylaw enforcement officer said however the animals were not killed by dog In report to council Bridge said the chickens were kept il legally Mrs Hannes was warn ed by registered letter that she could not keep her entourage of animalswhich also included two pigs and goat in residen tial neighborhood said Bridge In the registered letter issued Sept 21 Mrs Hannes was given 14 days to remove her pigs goat and turkeys Sept 25 neighbor reported to Bridge that Mrs Hannes had brought in 100 chickens WAS WARNED Mrs Hannes was warned about having animals in residential zone yet she brought in more than 100 chickens after being warned said Bridge She was notified said Coun Kathe Jans She knew no chickens were allowed in residential area cant see why the taxpayers of this township should pay for those chickens According to Mrs Hannes the birds are worth $500 to $600 In the height of discussions about the animal kill the owner of the accused dog offered to have the dog destroyed The dog however escaped death when Muskoka area family adopted it Nov 22 Black and Bridge maintained the dog did not kill the animals Blythe Black and this department feel there is doubt that the chickens were in fact killed by dog aid Roy in report nov It would in dicate that the dog went in after the chickens were dead and carried one off Under government regula tions the municipality must reimburse people whose livestock is killed by dogs Council however abided by Bridges recommendation that the livestock were kept illegally and that Mrs Hannes had been given sufficient warning to get rid of the animals Following the verdict Mrs Hannes told The Examiner she couldnt fight government and accused council of twisting the facts sufficiently to make point Mrs Hannes is con templating exhuming the chickens and bringing them to the University of Guelph for an autopsy Drugs involved students expelled Acting on recommendation from the principal of Midland Secondary School the Simcoe County Board of Education Wednesday expelled three students for involvement with illicit drugs Board director Irving Harris said today the decision was made reluctantly but private session following Wednesdays regularly scheduled meeting at the Education Centre Ferris Lane Following debate in private session motion was presented and the board went into public session to charged with the murder of his five yearold stepson testified Wednesday his deceased wife was alive and with him in the courtrtxmi and guiding him in what he said Testifying during trial to determine time Seven teachers seek exchanges Seven Simcoe County teachers have applied to take part in an exchange program that would allow them to work outside Ontario or Canada for one year The requests were
