today for the sixth time in seven years and they hope to break with recent form The Alouettes have won the last four such meetings in 1974 1975 1977 and 1978 The last vie tory by Ottawa over Montreal fact that on any given night any give team can beat another team Friday night at Dunlop Arena was perfect example of what Sly meant as his team Collingwood Shipbuilders the firstplace team in the league suffered 53 loss at the hands of the thirdplace Barrie Flyers Barrie came out flying in the first period and took advantage of every break they could to score three goals and take an lead before Collingwood found their skates and tallied one on ding the period in score Gerry Raycraft scored Flyers first goal with only nine seconds gone in the game after taking pass from Ron Lyte Terry Agnew who played strong hitting game against Shipbuilders gave Flyers 20 lead at 519 when he beat Coll ingwood goalie Ron Patterson Dan Walker and Ken Knapton assisted Bob Coulson made it 30 on Shorthanded goal Lyte was off for elbowingt at 842 of the period Les Burgess former Flyer player now with Shipbuilders tallied Collingwoods first goal when his team was shorthand ed with John Mathews off for tripping Peter Dunbar assisted In the second period there was no scoring but lot of very hard hitting and chippy play Eight minors were called in the second period alone four of them roughing penalties Two fighting majors were also hand ed out With only six minutes gone in the period scrap er rupted in the Collingwood end between Flyers Phil Branston and Shipbuilders John Mat thews The two players were sent off for five minutes each for fighting Meanwhile Wayne Dusome and Peter Dunbar were also roughing it up and both were sent off with double minors Dusomes both roughing calls and Dunbar with holding and roughing calls ollingwood put lot of pressure on Barrie goaltender Grant Cole in the second period firing 11 shots on him and forcing him to make several fine saves In the third period both teams continued hardhitting and chippy play In the first few minutes of the third period Shipbuilders controlled the play and put fired number of shots at Cole with Bill Lanckes shot finally beating him making the score 31 While Cole made some good saves Flyers had difficulty cleaing the puck out of their own zone and finally Ship builders capitalized to score the tying goal Geo Wilson took pass from Murray White as he moved into the slot and put the puck past Cole on his stick side Both teams seemed to pick up speed after the tying goal and while Shipbuilders dominated the play it was Flyers player coach Paul Regan who finally put the winning goal in the net Regan skated over the blue line deked around one Coll ingwood defender and then slid shot along the ice to beat lat terson Shipbuilders pulled their goalie with just over one minute left in the game for an extra attacker and came close to scoring forcing Cole to make several key saves But Ship builders hopes were ended when the puck skipped past Collingwood player at the Flyer blue line and Flyers Bob oulson picked it up skated up left wing aimed carefully and fired the puck into the empty Collingwood net It was very good hockey gameit was obviom that both beat Shipbuilders BOB VOUISON two goals teams wanted to win said Sly former coach of the Barrie Flyers They got three goals in the first period and we won the last two but they put the puck in the net and got the breaks and we didnt even though we outshot them 2819 Although the refereeing left something to be desired Sly said his team needed no exlt cuses they were beaten and that was that Sly was happy with the way his team played and is anticipating the rematch in ollingwood on Shipbuilders larger ice surface didnt expect the game to be that physical said Sly Sly said that it didnt bother him to be facing his old team However he commented that it was very strange feeling to be standing on the other side of the rink The game was rough
