morning Fans who went on an Examiner sponsored bus trip saw the lowly Toronto Blue Jays hammer the California Angels 93 in Sunday afternoon contest at Exhibi tion Stadium in Toronto It wasnt so much that the Blue Jays easi ly handled the western division leading Angels or that they rebounded from 242 rut the dav before But in doing so the Blue Jays defeated probably the best pitcher in all of baseball Nolan Ryan It was good day says Examiner publisher Bruce Rowland Everybody had good time ARRIVE EARLY The buses arrived at the Stadium about 1130 am allowing fans about two hours before game time to explore the exhibition grounds The game ended about 405 pm with the buses heading back to Barrie about Dollys little sister star in her own right By RICHARD THOMAS The Examiner She may be already logged 11 years as seasoned country vocalist on the road in the United States and Europe where she has big following and for the past three years has been recording artist for Electra records peaks and valleys no need to say who had the peaks and who had the valleys Later in between shows she told The Ex aminer dont think the world needs two Dolly Partons but hope it has room for Stella Her audiences Sunday obviously thought so When she asked them if they loved Dolly the crowd murmered in assent but lone voice from the grandstand brought dazzling smile from the petite vivacious blond singer when it said Yeah but we love Stella bet ter She grew up singing in the Smoky Moun tains of East Tennessee and says she cant remember when she wasnt working in front of an audience The sixth of 12 children Dolly is three years older Miss Parton once shared singing act with her sister until Dolly went to Nashville We havent worked together since Now based in Nashville herself Miss Par ton however prefers playing to live au diences around the US and Europe havent worked in Canada as much as would like to she says With managerhusband Jim Malloy former executive of Electra records and producer for such country music names as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings Miss Parton spent 220 days on the road last year singing for audiences at concerts and country fairs APPEARS 0N She also made about 25 TV appearances last year and is scheduled to shoot segment on The Loveboat this fall Both she and her husband want her to do more work in television but as performer perhaps with her own show Borden Bernier was passenger in car drien by 20yearold Rino Deschenes also of Borden when the car struck parked trucktrailer about 1230 am Deschenes was taken to CFB Borden Hospital and is schedul ed totally under control in last minute ar rangments for ceremonies Wednesday in Barrie giving the Canadian Armed Forces CFBt Borden freedom of the city honor Everything seems set to go says Peter McIntyre one of the organizers of the day It will be the first time the base has been granted the freedom of the city custom which dates back long time Activities will get under way Wednesday afternoon at 115 with the assembly of military personnel and the march to city hall INSPECT GUARDS At pm the honor guards will be inspected and the pro clamation granting the freedom of the city will be made At 215 parade will follow through the streets of downtown Barrie One hour later residents will be able to witness the aerobatic per formance of the Snowbirds over Kempenfelt Bay skydiving performance will follow that act The only area of concern for organizers now is the paving of the Mulcaster Street railway tracks McIntyre said But that should be done this morning and should not pose problem for festivities Wednesday he said Parts of downtown streets will be closed off and on during the ceremony said McIntyre However many of the closings should last only about 20 minutes at time McIntyre said But arrangements are set and hopefully there shouldnt be any surprises McIntyre said MARCH THROIGII STREETS The ceremony dates back to the Dutch Wars when King Charles 11 would issue warrants to recruit men for service in the kings ships The warrants had to be shown to the lord mayor before any recruiting was done in the city Freedom of the city meant the regiment could march recreational plan Barrie city council might have recreational master plan in the works following its meeting later today special meeting has been called for this afternoon begin ning at pm to discuss the proposed move At that time six companies which have proposed to take on the study will present their cases before city council At the completion of the presentations council will make the decision whether or not to proceed with the study Three local companies and three others from Toronto have offered their services for the study which establishes priorities for recreational addi tions over the next few years Five of the six companies have offered to do the study in the $60000 range Another has said it can do it for about $45000 The study was original ly estimated to cost about $70000 Ald Jim Shirley says the study may be too expensive for the city to undertake and that it should proceed with its own staff The study was originally recommended by the recrea tional planning committee In
