4er BA thee It takes no special talent to be urd er Ladies and gentlemen of murderous bent have me om all walks of live They have ranged from bungling oro to college pro fessors select few have taken trao dinary steps to cover their tracks Sometimes these eps include attempts to dispose of their victims bodies g2 Chester Stanton Jordan shifted his lbs from foot to foot as the hardware store clerk inquired if the hacksaw felt comfortable in his hand Very fine Chester replied It will do the job nicely The job Chesters nimble mind alluded to was the systematic dismemberment of his wifes body but of course at the time only he knew that would appreciate it if you would sharpen the butcher No problem at all the obliging clerk responded Thus equipped with new cutting tools the ft in Chester ambled out of the hardware store to address himslef to the task at hand As Chester smartly walked through the streets of Boston that day in 1908 the good citizens of Beantown had no way of knowing that the name of Chester Jordan would soon be the best known name in the city born actor Chester was born 28 years before in Indianapolis As youngster he displayed natural affinity for the stage which prompted him to leave school to become an actor To keep the wolf from the door Chester supported himself by working in furniture store When he was 21 his family mov ed to Boston Chester had developed an act and appeared on the stage whenever the opportunity presented itself In 1904 Chester met the apple of his eye stripper who disrobed under the name of Irene Shannon It was con sidered politics for anyone appearing on the stage in Boston to have an Irish moniker On Sept 25 1904 Chester and Irene tied the knot They pro ceeded to try to combine their acting abilities by forming an act together but attempts towards this end proved fruitless Instead Chester obtained employment as collector for finance company while Irene was able to make living at her drafty profession It is difficult to say just when Irene began to accuse the hulking Chester of being impotent Later Chester claimed the whole topic of his impotence exploded into violence during an argument He growled at this wife Youre dirty evilminded bitch to which Irene replied Ill show you whether Im bitch or not Then the ft inch Irene advanced on the ft inch Chester with butcher knife in her hand Chester acting strickly in selfdefence you understand struck his wife sending her crashing down the stairs Irene lay dead on the floor The next thing our boy Chester remembers is waking up the next morning and finding his wifes nude body on the floor lnexplicably her throat was cut from ear to ear but little details like that didnt seem to bother Chester What to do Chester thought the whole thing over If he went to the police he felt sure he would be accused of murdering his wife Like many murderer who went before him Chester decided to dispose of the body He found straight razor and butcher knife in his home andbegan his gruesome task While the work wasnt easy Chester managed to remove both arms and legs He then lifted the armless and legless body and placed it in one of pair of stationery stone washtubs The arms and legs fitted nicley into the second tub Chester washed up and went to neighborhood bar where he had quick shot of whiskey to steady his nerves He then visited the hardware store and purchased the hacksaw That same evening Chester cut off Irenes head with his hacksaw No one ever thought to ask so we will never know why Chester took the trouble to scalp his wife We do know that he threw the scalp into stove The draft carried it to the back of the stove away from any flames It was later recovered in almost mint condition Chester spent the entire evening cutting and carving until Irene was in total of twelve individual sections Exhausted and hungry from his labors Chester paused to eat two cold pork chops Ironically they had been cooked by Irene the day before Then Chester placed all twelve parts of his departed wife back into the two washtubs cleaned up his tools and left his residence to take brief stroll Is murderers work never done Returning home from his constitutional Chester placed Irenes head and thighs in the furnace He lit the furnace and figured that was that Next day Chester bought trunk and spool of good Future looking bright xaminer Sauragy Musical director Richard Bonynge had said it might be good idea for the VOA to close for three years regroup and then start again an unpleasant prospect for association of ficials This year the future is look ing brighter Obviously Vancouver want ed an opera company says Hamilton McClymont who took over as general manager of the troubled association last June When the board launched an appeal for funds individual and corporate donations topped the $100000 goal by almost $10000 It came in when it seemed matters couldnt get lot worse financially or other wise says McClymont 1979 Toronto Sun Syndicate strong cord What remained of Irene was placed in the trunk George Collins followed the honorable profession of what was then called hackman He was hailed by Chester and for the rest of his life was able to tell cronies the story of how he lugged Irene Shannons body through the streets of Boston Earlier in the day Chester had rented room at No Han cock St from Mrs Mary Haley Collins who wasnt big man had some difficulty in plac ing the trunk on his hack but his obliging fare gave him hand Collings couldnt help but notice that his passenger drew the shades of the hack even though it was broad daylight Finally the horse drawn vehicle pulled up in front of No Hancock Again Collins passenger helped carry the heavy trunk The men lugged the trunk up the stairs and placed it in what was obviously Chesters room Collins received dollar for this trouble and took his leave but he couldnt get the big man out of his mind He went to the police and told his story The police didnt think the incident that out of the or dinary but responding to citizens suspicions they promis ed to look into the matter That evening two police officers intercepted Chester as he was returning to his room They asked him what was in his trunk Chester hedged Under fur ther probing Chester opened the trunk and began to lift clothing from tray inset in the top of the trunk One of the polciemen became impatient he lifted the tray and peered inside The cat was out of the bag the fat was in the fine and sure as shooting Irene was in the trunk All hell broke loose Chester was hustled down to the police station where he confessed to dismembering his wife in an attempt to dispose of the body He certainly hadnt murdered dear Irene It had all been horrible accident Rich relations It took the Boston cops exactly one hour to formally charge Chester with murder It took only three more hours for those same cops to find out that Chester had well heel ed brotherinlaw none other than Jesse Livermore You may be forgiven if you ask Jesse who but back in 1908 Livermores name was synonymous with American suc cess stories Jesse had left school at fifteen to work for brokerage house in Boston Starting with $312 he netted $140 on his first deal in the stockmarket 0n the way up Jesse married secretary who worked at another brokerage of fice The secretary Nettie Jordan was none other than our boy Chesters sister Within year Nettie and Jesse Liver more had made their first fortune trading in copper stocks Moving on to Wall St they cleaned up over $3 million in cot ton No question about it Chester had wealthy champions in his sister and brotherinlaw They publicly stated that they would stand behind Chester no matter what Chester stood trial for murder on April 20 1909 in East Cambridge Mass He stuck to his story throughout but the prosecutions evidence proved positively embarrassing An efficient medical expert testified that Irene had not met her end by falling downstairs She had died from manual strangulation The police had found flatiron in Chesters residence It was downright embarrassing when medical expert displaying poor Irenes skull in court neatly fitted the flatiron into depressions in the skull From the evidence it appeared impossible for Irene to have met her death by fall ing down the stairs Twenty hours after retiring to deliberate the jury found Chester guilty as charged With Livermores bankroll behind him Chester was able to exhaust every possible legal avenue in order to stay out of Massachusetts dreaded elec tric chair It was all for naught On Sept 24 1912 Chester was firmly strapped into the chair One minute and eight seconds later Chester was pronounced dead LFYENWG 600 933 NEWS HOLLYWOOD SQUARES DEFINITION i9 POLKA DOT DOOR 628 NEws 630
