This exclamation by Ragazzi co owner Leonardo Placidi is a direct indication of the passion that went into opening his own restaurant and the love that is put into each meal created by co-owner and master chef Mark Flippance. Upon entering Ragazzi, visions of Italian piazzas, homemade dishes and cobblestone pathways come to mind as you view the brightlycoloured walls, terracotta floors, the displayed wine bottles, and the romantic sounds of an Italian aria played in the background. A lounge complete with T.V. is tucked in the comer for a group to have conver sation over drinks. A gorgeous mural of coastal Sorrento, Italy paints a backdrop to the intimate eatery. Mark, a culinary graduate of George Brown, has worked in Italian kitchens for six years under three Italian chefs, locally at La Costa, and others across Canada. He brought those teachings and added his own unique touch, calling his menu traditional Italian with a modem twist. "There's so much you can do with food!" says Mark. You'll find the taste of the seas like salmon, shrimp and to-die-for mussels, others like zesty pastas, tender veal, and delicate desserts. And if you don't find it on the menu, just ask - they'll make it for you, even if you have diet restrictions. Ask Leonardo, wine connoisseur, to recommend an accompanying wine. Involved with the restaurant business for seven years, he select ed all of the wines on the wall sized 132 wine rack. You'll find Barolo, Amarone, and Merlot. Open only four weeks, they've had a packed house every night, and a(stack of feedback cards tells the thoughts of every patron that walks through their door. "Reminds me of the fine dishes we had the pleasure of tasting in Italy. See you again soon," reads one. "Great food, deli cious," reads another. Ragazzi means "two young guys", and for Mark and Leonardo this is a dream come true. "I told myself I'd own my own restaurant by the time I was 27," says a smiling and proud Mark, 26. "We both had the desire and the background and when the opportunity came up, we grabbed it." Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, Ragazzi is located at 1122 Dorval Dr., 905-844-6700.
