Coldwater fair race won by Barrie mare COLDWATER Staff nineyearold mare owned by Joe McBride of Barrie Misty Dream captured the mile pace at the Coldwater fall fair sulky races Saturday afternoon Driven by Lucien Plante the mare rallied down the stretch to win over Tottenham gelding named Time Are with Beeton gelding taking third out of five starters Owner Joe McBride was trainer of Misty Dream win ner at Barrie raceway earlier in the season Bill Byron wear ing green white and yellow silks guided Time Are for John Cole while Don McGee handled the reins of Danny Nobe for McGee of Beeton More than 11000 spectators attended the twoday Col dwater fair which was favored with ideal sunny weather Warden Orville Hughes reeve of West Gwillimbury officially opened the fair which featured school childrens parade midway rides talent show agricultural and domestic science displays and closing dance at the community centre COLWATER WINNER Keith Webb of Coldwater was the driver of two winners with his Victor Harry taking the se cond and sixth pacing events The fouryearo gelding by Scotch Affair from Judy Brooks beat out Albert Song an entry from Shelburne driven by Bill Pennington in the second with Frosty Fern mare owned by Roy James Morrow of Stroud taking third Reta Morrow handled the reins in the sixth Victor Harry was gressed by Albert Song again ut managed to win by half length Barrie owned horse Joe McBrides Chester Judge was third Don Wilcox of Midland drove April Lane fouryearold mare to her first win of the season in the opening race She had twice taken third money in races at Barrie An Orangeville mare Lum bers Little Bit was the fourth race winner under the guidance of Bill Pennington Keith Webbs Flying Miss was second Mount St Louis road being reconstructed By MRS BEULAII BARR HOBART Construction work has been going on the section of the Mount St Louis road between the 4th and 5th concession for some days with that section of the road closed at times Mount St Louis road is to have face lift and is being made ready for gravelling Resurfacing of the road is plan ned from Hillsdale to 400 expan sion In the meantime the ground work such as lowering the grade between the 4th and 5th comcession digging of ditches etc are all part of the resurfac ing of the road It will certainly be vast improvement and will be much appreciated by area residents and travellers alike Newcomers were noticed moving into the Spanish style modular home on the 5th con cession of Medonte few days ago Sincere sympathy is ex tended to Mr Ernest Miller in the loss of his wife on Sunday Sept 26 and the family in the loss of their mother Mr Miller passed away suddenly at their Coldwater home after return ing home from the anniversary service held in Hillsdale Presbyterian Church The funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church in Col Sterli customers dwater with interment in Col dwater cemetery She will be sadlymissed Neighbors are sorry to learn Paul and Loraine Belanger and their little daughter Anita Marie have moved from the area All good wishes are ex tended them as they take up residence elsewhere Mr and Mrs Gus Ladouceur and family of Port McNicholl were guests of Mr and Mrs Gordon Smith and sons on Saturday night Mr and Mrs Braithwaite have left the area having taken up residence in new home they had built recently Mrs Braithwaite teaches in the Coldwater school Mr and Mrs Keith Webb who were injured when attemp ting to avoid dog on the road with their motorcycle some days ago are progressing favorably and friends hope their convalescence wont be of too long duration Happily their accident didnt cause more serious injury CONSERVATION ANGUS The executive committee of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority cond for over 152 hands and also in the gentlemens tour nout competition The Sander son stable of Shanty Bay an John Partridge of Minesing were among other leading win ners in the roadster class When results were an nounced it was pointed out that the Malcomson stable has won the stake class four times dur ing the past six years On the other two occasions there were ties for first place Burt Holmes of Orillia won first for best fourhorse hitch with Harry Priest of Minesing also winner in the heavy horse classes Largest pumpkin in the fair which weighed nearly 60 pounds was shown by David Doyle of St Johns school Waubaushene Eileen Doyle of the same school was second for largest pumpkin in the school fair section 52pounder with Michael Doyle third by half pound The fourth largest pum
