of been the SOpiece orchestra which did it Maybe it was the delay caused by the seemineg endless pomp of the official opening cermonies Whatever it was it worked for almost two riods to keep the Barrie Colts umbling after the Thornhill Thuderbirds Monday But that was all Colts came back with an awesome display of firepower to overcome 40 deficit and take 74 win from the Thunderbirds in the season opener for the Barrie Junior Hockey Club The win also spoiled the home opener of the midOntario Junior hockey for the Thun derbirds They were tight early in the game explained coach Don Crowe afterwards You could see the legs mov ing but they werent getting anywhere he said It was the second game of the season for the Thunderbirds which had blasted the Midland Flyers 83 last Friday And it mark of the opening period Scott Howson used an unprotected winger as decoy to snap shot past Colts netminder Hal Hake Dean Dorsey who had tryouts last season with Junior club was effective enough to keep the Colts off the scoreboard for the first period and much of the second Thunderbirds on the other hand took advantage of Barrie penalties early in the second period for two quick powerplay goals period The forward coasted by the Barrie goalmouth in time to have shot go off him and into the net Rookie defenceman Pat Rudkins broke the ice for the Colts with his scoring drive from the point at 1539 of the se cond nod The Colts rookie skate around the Thunder birds defence to flip shot over Hakes shoulder just three minutes later and suddenly the Colts were back in the game Whatever jitters the Colts may have had stayed in the dressing room after the second period The forward line of Eric Cummings Jim Angus and Mark Gillanders came alive for four of the five unanswered Barrie goals in the final period Cummings had chance to close the gap early but flipped shot over the net At 355 he had another chance and this time he cooly slipped the puck by Dorsey for the third straight goal by Barrie It was evident the Colts had their legs and head working CoOp midgets hold on to defeat Peterborough Barrie Coops opened up 30 lead lost it then came back for 43 victory in an exhibition major
