characters to explore some very profound questions both through actions and words and often that just doesnt work But thats really minor criticism of the book on the whole its vastly entertaining funny and compelling Hodgins descriptions of Vancouver Island are excellent He creates characters that are original and memorable and he writes about Ireland as though he knows the country like native In Donal Keneally Hodgins has created tragic hero as he follows Kcneallys life from mythical beginnings as the son of mad woman and an enor mous bull to his apocalyptic death when the colony begins to crumble Hodgins proves his ability as storyteller Keneal lys story is birarrc and com pelling one and Hodgins makes it believeable and miraculous at the samc time And in sccncs like wedding torn apart
