society and Samia police may have contributed to the death of 19monthold girl in an abuse case William Lovatt said the society received no report on Sarnia police investigation arising from an anon mous call the force receive in 1976 saying abuse was suspected in injuries suffered by Kim Ann Popen provincial inquiry is in vestigating the societys role in the case Kim died on Aug 11 1976 of head is free on bail pending an appeal of the con viction CALLER ANONYMOUS Lovatt said the anonymous call received after the child was admitted to hospital with broken arm in 1975 would have been treated more seriously had it been known that the call was made by the Popens family doctor Samir Jumean He said the society receives numerous anonymous calls many of them cranks Lovatt also testified that one day after the girl died he spoke with Sarnia police but was not told about the circumstances of her death He said he treated the death accidental and as sumed police had seen the childs body There was some allusion made to sexual injuries on the body and that they were not caused by human agent he said was not told by police who was going to be charged what parent was involved or even whether the child was abused He said he did not learn of the results of the police investi gation until t44page report was submitted this week to the inquiry as evidence SHARES BLAME The society shared blame
