examiner Tuesday July 25 1978 I5 Let liars fall flat Dear Ann Landers How does one protect oneself against liar Please dont tell me to avoid her would like nothing better but it isnt possible This person is part of longtime social circle as well as relative Our paths cross constant vShe is especially dangerous because her stories have quality of believability that is fantastic She always manages to hook some halftruths onto her lies She also exaggerates great deal Its impossible to tell where the truth ends and the lie begins marvel at the way she can get facts twisted up so things can never be un tangled This woman has caused me quite lot of trouble and many sleepless nights What can do about itDefenceless And Frustrated Dear and People who he eventually reveal them selves They can get away with it for only so long and then their credibility falls apart Your best protection against liar is your own good name What you are will speak more convincingly in your behalf than what anyone says Never make the mistake of trying to defend yourself against liar Stand on your reputation and let her fall on hers Dear Ann Landcrs recent column of yours made me so mad am crosseyed How can parent teach It Hazards of shoplifting tdishonestyi when they them selves take kids to the movies at reduced price because they look younger than 12 t2 Exceed the speed limits because we have CB t3i Steal towels and ashtrays from motel and call them souvenirs t4 Brag to friends how they avoided paying taxes Smoke and drink and tell their children not to do it child teams great deal by observation and he observes lot more than we suspect Its toughjob to teach the three Rs and more so when children come from homes where there are poor role models and little discipline Many children look to their teachers for affection and acceptance because they arent getting it anywhere else Thank God for parents who care about their children and understand the problems teacher faces in the class room IIl Keep Working In Education Regardless Dear Keep Working All can say is bless you hope the students youre helping wont wait until youre dead before they realize what wonderful influence you were in their lives Dear Aim Ive been divorced for 15 years My ex husband promptly remarried but never did lived comfortably with the status of divorcee Last year my exhusband died Now dont know how to classify myself Obviously am not widow Am widowed divorcee divorced widow or what7Palm Springs Dear IS You are not widow because your husband did not die Your former husband died You are also not divorcee because your former husband is no longer living You are divorced woman whose exhusband is deceased Got it For what its worth Dirtiest kids or cleanest By MARGARET WORTH was confronted by an extra large pile of dirty laundry this week have never quite been able to decide if have the cleanest or the dirtiest kids in town but the amount of washing that is done they should be the cleanest but judging by the amount that comes back for washing they must be the dirtiest The mountainous pile that met my horrified gaze was oc casioned by the fact that most of my family are about to em bark on camping trip Naturally their ancient and trusty camping outfits had emerged all apparently in desperate need of refurbishing through the wash and dry cycle That wasnt too bad provided the dryer whom you may remember as having very definate personaltiy problem from time to time didnt decide to throw mechanical temper tantrum and chew everything in sight The problem lay in fact in the newer articles of clothing purchased by various daughters over the last few months accompanied by plaintiff cries of mother simply havent thingtowear The trend is back to natural fibres delicate prints softly smocked tops in muted shades all very fetching appealing surely to the peasant in all of us There is however one great big snag in all those natural fibres They have to be ironed realize that not everyone has my aversion to standing over hot ironing board for hours on end ironing out little eruinples in impossible cor ners In fact once heard of lady who actually enjoyed it but she was suspect the selfsame body who never in her whole life burned batch of scones to cinder or had an angel cake take nosedive 30 seconds out of the oven remember moments in my own mad youth when actual ly ironed my husbands sticks and he still likes to recall with slightly sarcastic chuckle the time melted large hole in pair of our firstborns frilly pants 77 the plastic lined variety Such foolishness hasnt bothered me for years The com ing of dripdry was to me the dawning of beautiful new era so am more than little dismayed at the return of the ironage reach sadly for the spraystarch and hope for the swift return of manmade fibres Pollys Pointers Baby food jars are handy items DEAR POLLY have been saving empty baby food jars and would like some ideas for putting them to use am sure many of the readers have excellent and practical purposes for these jars and would appreciate hearing from them JILL DEAR JILL The following two letters have Ideas just as you asked for am sure we will be hearing from other readers too POLLY DEAR POLLY tell the mothers of new babies to save baby food jars They are great for storing babys cotton tipped sticks to hold leftovers in the refrigerator and also as they will be right at your fingertips by simply unscrewing them DIANA DEAR POLLY If the steak you are cooking for dinner does not get tender enough to serve substitute tuna or salmon sandwiches and use the steak for tomorrows lunch Chop or mince the steak add mayonnaise and have delicious spread for sandwiches Also such steak can be cut into cubesize pieces for soup or stew It will become quite palatable after being boiled for 30 minutes or an hour Pet owners can make their own easily replaced cat or dog dish by simply cutting off most of the top of half ga Ion milk carton leaving the bottom one or two inches as dish for Fido or Kitty WINIFRED DEAR POLLY When children are learning to button their sweaters shirts blouses etc teach them to start at the bottom instead Of the top and there will never be an figs button or buttonhole left at the top MARGUER DEAR POLLY When making rolled sugar cookies use pastry wheel to make bars triangles or diamond shapes find this faster and easier than using cookie cutters and there is less rerolllng When making salad with canned peaches or pears save the juice and use it for making apple sauce FLO DEAR POLLY When putting on jacket or sweater some of the charms on my bracelet were always getting caught in the sleeve hem So now put small plastic bag over my hand and bracelet when putting on or taking off garment and have no more problems
