horse racing will be held on Saturday afternoon and grand closing dance will be held on Saturday night HAMILTON INN While the coming fair is the 83rd at Coldwater fall fairs in the area date well back into the pioneer era The first fair in this district was held at the Hamilton Inn property near Hillsdale under the joint sponsorship of Maionte and Flos townships in 1861 The fairs were held at drf ferent farms for few years ac cording to old records later the F105 Agricultural Society was organized when one fair was moved to Elmvale about 1885 Another fair was spon sored by the Medonte Mar chedash and Coldwater society and this was moved to Col dwater WARDEN HUGHES to open fair President of the first fair at Coldwater was Kitchen who operatui post office in Matchcdash while John Fesserton The fall fair society was marking its 13th year in Coldwater when the community became an incorporated village in 1908 The first village coun cil made up of fair b00sters had Charles Millard as reeve and Manning Tipp ing Elliott and Robinson councillors The community had been police village in Medonte township with its own board of trustees since 1879 Leading local stores of 1894 were Mannings Hardware Millards drug store and Jonathan Dodges harness shop Convers operated the Coldwater livery and Leatherdale carriage and wagon works The Ryan House and Borland House were leading hotels in the village at that time old records show Don Bell is current president of the Coldwater and District Agricultural Society Zoning plans advanced by Coldwater council COLDWATER Staff new zoning bylaw which has been given second reading by council has been sent to the On tario ministry of housing for comments and approval After hearing from the ministry the council will then consider third and final reading In the meantime copies Hll be sent to property 0wners and second public meeting held probably in Oc tober The councrl discussed the bylaw with planners Mike Broddigan and
