CHRIST CHURCH ANGLICAN CHURCH VESPRA SATURDAY SERMON finszgmflcan things can be destructive HOWARD LRTNEY In recent days much evidence has been produced and published exposing corrup tier in the field of religion It seem to me to be one of agic events of our day rance allow me to quote some literature that In East Lansing the Lnitarians st Church has begun gxirnography flicks to money And In Texas the First who donates her time at to do on Sunday mor tslie does for living itday night Lnquote sat ir our minds has been iili river the centuries is presentiv entering into the rhurcli and prostituting the DUH teachings of the true Gospel ofJesus Christ But more than these outright denials of Bible truth and teachings are those unseen are seemingly insignificant things which creep into our lives Greed pride hatred unforgiving attitudes and the like These have powerfully destructive force behind them that tear apart the very essence of Christianity Love is des troyed by hatred Forgiveness is not possible without Bible repentance And that means not just turning to God but definite act of turning from sin and wrong Genorosity is on the opposing side of greed Greed then prostitutes and destroys generous and giving spirit What has been said so often is that the hidden sniper is worse than direct confrontation of the enemy For when he is hidden is NC he can be handled So it is with those things which prostitute our spiritual lives The obvious can be dealt with but these attitudes which are so destructive creep in unaware Beware If you are harbour ing hatred greed anger doubt pride or an unforgiving at titude you are prosituting your religion based on the Bible For the fruit that grows on life that is founded on the Jesus Christ of the Bible is solid character Qualities of love joy peace patience gentleness goodness faith meekness and selfcontrol are developed And any Christian who allows anything in the life that doesnt line up with these is pro stitutinghis religion Dont prostitute your religion propagate it Anxiety grows on expansion of BC coalloading port VANCOUVER CP Anx iety is growing over the delayed expansion of the Roberts Banks port 15 miles south of here in the municipality of Delta The coalloading terminal which opened six years ago has not been expanded because of court case concerning the own crsliip of the seabed between the mainland and Vancouver Island Theres no question in my mind that we must proceed with expansion as soon as pos sible says Fred Spoke Vanlt couver port manager am rather tearful about the delay ing cllcct the court case may have recent decision by the Brit ish Columbia Court of Appeal that the seabed belongs to the provincial government is almost certain to be appealed by the federal government Just who owns the seabed is important because the four new Suratre sites drawn up in the original port plans will be created out of the seabed tlirough dredging and filling at cost estimated by Mr Spoke cstimatedat$25million Several hundred thousands of dollars also will be needed for an enVironmental study of the seabed he said APPROVAL CONTINGENT Mr Spoke said bids on the study were called for last fall by the National Harbors Board but final approval was contin gent on deciding who would be responsible for the costs He said even if the ownership question is settled by the fall the study could not start until yearend This would push back start on the actual expansion to the end of 1977 Mr Spoke said there is an awful lot of pressure on existing facilities at Roberts Bank from burgeoning exports of bulk products John Heffcrnan vicepresi dent of terminal operations and traffic for Kaiser Resources Ltd which through sub sidiary operates the existing coal terminal at Roberts Bank says the ompany plans to ex ercise its option on the first 50 acres lie said the company is con cerned about the delay in ex pansion because demand for coal is rising steadily and lead time is needed for assembling new terminal Mr Spokcs sense of urgency Youths taught way bf trapper NORWAY HOUSE Man tCPi The skills of the fur trapper wont die if the Mani toba government has anything to say about it The province has been con ducting program to train youths aged from 16 to 19 years in the centuriesold ways of the trapper The program was launched last fall using five veteran trappers in each of nine se lected communities in northern Manitoba Each trapper chose student and trained him during part of the fall winter and spring sca sons The teenagers were taught number of the trap ers skills setting tra ma ing camp cookingan preparingpelts The trappers who were paid $10 day by the Manitoba gov ernment supplied food traps and other equipment The project the brainchild of Sandy Beardy chairman of the Cross Lake Man Fur Council aims to preserve the trappers trade Its good way to earn living said George Pauta nekis 60 of Cross Lake who has been trapper since he was 18 years old raised family of nine kids without an help from welfare Five my boys are trap mm MORE AID NEEDED Mr Pautan is said $10 day wasnt enough to cover his ex penses as an instructor He said there should be more assistance for the trappers in providing traps and other equipment for students But the program is good one he said It gives the young men chance to be trained in our traditional way of makinga living We need it if trapping is going to survive David McDougall 16 of St Theresa Point who has coin pleted Grade 10 and hopes even tually to study law said he found the trapping course was good experience What if dont complete ev erything Im aiming at he asked Ill still have trapping to go back to If do make it it will give me an understanding of my people that will be very impor tant in the future The reason want to study is to help my people Eli Castel 19 of Pukatawa gan said he liked the taste ot trapping he got last season and plans to go back in the fall learned lot but need more practice he said The trappers and their stu dents got together in July to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the program The meeting suggestedthat more uipment be provrderl and sait the age limit foreli gible students should be raised to 25 years about the first expansion is not shared by some bulk trans porters however as some pri vatelyfinanced modern bulk loading terminals in the citys inner harbor say they can han 110 more product than they now ship Harry Wood president of Vancouver Wharves says the North Vancouver site handled only 750000 tons of sulphur in 1975 and the terminal has the capacity to take three million tons your Sometimes forgets hes actor llWA Il Donnelly Rhodes soirictiiiics forgets he is an actor Rhodes one of two new stars in liCTVs Sidestrcet police adventure series said in an interview that he once automatically pulled out police identity card when he was approached by drunk in Toronto bar The card was souvenir he received after filming segment of Police Story in 10 Angclcs Sidcstrcct returns for sec ond season Oct It The series of seven hourlong programs was produced by Brian Walker and stars Rhodes as Sgt Nick Raitt and Jonathan Welsh as his partner Sgt Glenn Olsen Guest stars include John Co licos Kate Reid Neil Munro Deborah Turnbull and Murray Westgate The series has no violence for the sake of violence CBC spokesmen say But Rhodes says dont see how you can do show about crime and violence without in volving crime and violence In the premiere episode Line of Duty Rhodes takes firm stand defending his partner who is suspended from the for ce after being accused of knocking down pregnant woman during demonstration outside Toronto hospital Of the episode Rhodes says It is not one of my favorites Out of seven shows there are four good ones Sidestrect tries to em hasize realistic situations an belie vable characters the CBC says But one attempt at realism in Line of Duty ap peared feeble It shows Nick Raitt feeding pigeon on the windowsill of his apartment It was to show that policemen have feelings says Rhodes Rhodes appears believable as Sgt Raitt As for the Toronto bar incident Rhodes says that when he explained that he was an actor and not policeman the bar staff congratulated him on his performance 10000 trees guarded but disease spreads TORONTO CP Although Canadiandeveloped process is injecting fungicide into the tree roots It can protect uninfected trees and drive the fungus from elms if the infection is not too severe The success rate is more than 90 per cent Dr Edward Kondo research scientist with the forestry service said in re cent interview SUCLESS RATE IIIII Dr Kondo said treatment programs have been started in Windsor and Kingston Michael Melnike field su pervisor needed to complete the root injection Seventyfive per cent of To rontos elm trees already are diseased Mr Mclnike said and that figure is expected to in crease The Canadi Wildlife Scr vicc reported
