engines competed for at tention ther engines joined in releasing clouds of steam over the ookstown Fairgrounds at the animal show of the Geon gian Ray Steam Automotive Gas and Antique Association The air at the grounds was constantly filled with the chug ging and thudding of steam and gaspowered engines at work They drove cross cut saws pumps threshing machines board planer and circular saw cutting planks On Saturday spectators braved rain showers and mud dy ground to visit the show which feattired about 500 exhib itors including 22 steamers The rain forced cancellation of one event the oldtiine fiddle contest The fiddlers could not keep their instruments in tune Also the Saturday parade was cancelled because of the muddy footing But it couldnt keep the peo ple away Children lined up to ride scale model of CPR 2700 class steam locomotive The model built by Wes White and his two sons of Flesherton took about three years to complete Mr White who let local boy Gerald Fenn of Cookstown operate the train said he takes it to most shows PULLS 20 The train is built to one inch equals one foot scale and is capable of reaching about 10 miles an hour The locomotive can pull train with about 20 people riding it It was built for Centennial Year and is fuelled with oil Other models filled part of the fair grounds including model of 30 horsepower Case tractor Philip McGuire of Chesley built the model taking about four years on and off again Mr McGuire who uses the tractor to drive grinding machine said it is one quartcr scale with seven and half horsepower engine Most of the parts for the trac tor had to be bu1lt by hand Roy Snider of Kettleby in King Township attracted lot of attention as he hewed logs Mr Snider is descended from John Snider who settled iii King won the trophy for the gas tractors up to 1930 Mr Goss entered 1929 Rumpley il Pull with 3050 horsepower engine In the 1930 to 1940 class Alden Winter of Schomberg won with his Model Case Ralph Mertz of Wyebridge won the general interest class for gas tractors with his John Deere MR The class was open to any year tractor which is rare or unusual 1926 Touring Chev Super ior Style with an 18 horsepower engine won the best antique car The automobile is owned by Fred Corbyn of Kettleby Bill Lewis of Beeton won trophy for the small antique of the show and Theresa Seheley and her son Frank of Colgan won for the small farm antique GAS ENGINE TROPHY The gas engine trophy went to Howard Haynes of Iowans town with Monarch pump jack engine at one and three quarters horsepower The adult small
