Minor Hockey Associa tion OMHAi finals four games straight This is one helluva team and they deserve the champion ship said Peter Panagabko coach They worked hard for it ReadyMix had busy season playing 52 games since they first donned the skates last fall The team lost only two league games throughout the regular season Theres no one person that made the team Panagabko said We had three well balanced lines and three good goalies Everyone worked hard Last year ReadyMix lost out to Oshawa in the semifinals 0f the allOntario championship and Panagabko said the team was determined not to let that happen again Danny Worrod led ReadyMix scoring in the final game of their season with two goals Steven Mayer Craig Waddington and Peter Panagabko each added one goal Assists went to Mike Lloyd and Cochrane each with two and Gary Jermey with single The two assists boosts Lloyds total point tally to 101 with 58 goals and 43 assists Sharing the goaltending duties in the final contest were Billy Lord and Bobby Malcolm One of the highlights of the successful ReadyMix season was trip to Philadelphia during the school break in March The peewee team was invited down to the hockey tournament by Pennsylvania players who were billeted by Sarjeants players when they were in Barrie for the Winter Carnival Tournament The team will not be together next year as players move up to the next minor members of the On tario Federation of Snowmobile Tlubs held their annual con ference in Barrie on the weekend The federation is the govern ing body for 297 snowmobile clubs and associations through out the province of Ontario This includes more than 11000 family memberships new board of directors was elected at the conference and the new president Roy Bates from Haliburton termed the conference success Bates declined to state any specific policies decided upon by the delegates because the federation will be making representation to the govern ment and we wouldnt want to turt our chances Lets just say from the deliberations of the conference will come an intensified effort to become greater influence in recreation snowmobiling Batestold The Examiner He said full account of the deliberations and decisions of the conference will appear in the federations monthly news letter In the past Bates noted the federation has concerned itself with such issues as the development and efforts they Jeheld were by no means iisappointing Child number one the yearold gelding Peter By Adice scooted into an early lead in the featured seventh race and withstood late to earn the winners share of a$1000 purse Child number two the yearold mare Hi Alice gave it good try in the eighth race Though unable to keep up with the leaders she responded gamely to driver Spinks exhortations and prevailed in spirited battle for the fifth and final cheque Peter By Alice and Hi Alice are owned by the Screens who also bred and raised the two pacers Theyre like kids to us noted jubilant Mrs Screen as she offered Peter lump of sugar and they always get their sugar The couples involvement with harness racing dates way When they purchased small farm near Milton as home for their retirement years standardbred mare by the name of Bee By Alice was being boarded there The Screens agreed to let her stay They did not agree however to let her stay for free When the horses owner didnt bother paying the board bills and ignored the Screens advertisements in racing magazines to come and reclaim the animal they took her over Bee By Alice was in foal at the time and before Screen could get the horse registered to race in his name he had to shell out for the stud fee which had also been left unpaid by the previous owner The mare has been good to them though producing four foals including Hi Army Navy Air Force Building on George St was the place to be Sunday The Barrie Revolver Club held buy sell and trade gun show and more than 300 people showed up to view the guns The show from am to noon had everything from old western pistols to 50 mm Ger man machinegun Books swords army helmets uniforms and gun kits were also available The exhibitors pay $3 for the table and then theyre allowed to set up their displays Andy Malcomson president of the Barrie Revolver Club said They exhibitors can deal with the public or dicker amongst themselves According to Malcomson Sundays show was the second the club has sponsored Another show is scheduled for August cant be anything but pleased with the way the show has gone he said Theres been lot of people come through the doors Malcomson said that ex hibitors from all over the pro vince come for the oneday show Anyone who wants to set up display can do so but most of the people are collec tors and they travel around the province to similar shows According to Malcomson theres been problem in the past with some of the press coverage similar shows have received Articles written on the shows have appeared in poor locations in newspapers and many of the athibitors are skeptical about agreeing to photographs or in terviews Certain clubs have had trou ble when articles have been matched with certain adver tisements or articles that were against gun shows he said Its just hobby People come out and buy guns the same way other people would go out and buy model airplane Most of the people really en joy the hobby If there was problem here
