the staffing implications for the future in Simcoe County While the problems of declining enrolment are real our county is better off than many other provincial boards Our problem in Simcoe County is one of arriving at an accurate enrolment projection for plann ing purposes Dr Thomas said Dr Thomas used several charts to show trustees the pro jected enrolment figures in Simcoe County schools from 1978 to 1985 He compared projected enrol ment figures prepared by the SCBE over the next seven years with figures for the same Briefs Ontario legislature giving it praise The debate will last for part in beef strike proposed by group of Western Canadian cattlemen Charles Gracey said the strike proposed by group called the Canadian Agriculture Movement is one of the dumbest ideas he has heard in long time The group based in Alberta and Saskatchewan has said it wants cattlemen to start withholding their animals from market starting Feb 27 until they receive decent return for their animals Gracey said He said there seems to be little support for the idea in Western or Eastern Canada Gracey said withholding cattle would worsen the present situation of low prices caused by an oversupply of time prepared by the ministry of education for all Ontario schools The Simcoe County figures for projected enrolment are not as bleak or pessimistic as the provincial figures Thus our county schools wont feel the dangerous impact of declining enrolments as will other pro vinical county boards he said Dr Thomas said if the board averaged the growth rate over the past two years and pro jected them forward to 1985 the student enrolment in elemen tary schools should gradually improve from 1979 to 1985 Without migration trends continuing or if no new elemen tary students enter into our county which is almost im possible to happen the pro jected student enrolment would not rise at all from 1978 to 1985 However with continuing migration trends into the coun ty our elementary school enrol ment should improve over the next seven years he said Jack Ramsay director of education for the SCBE stress ed that the board was working on projected enrolment figures at point half way between zero migration and continuing migration By playing averages we know were going to be wrong but we reduce the possibility of being way out in our enrol ment projections Ramsay said going to commission
