laughter sadness songs dances suspense gaie ly and carefullyvorehestrated dramatic plot For these reasons My Fair Lady rates as one of the finest musical comedies ever produc ed At the same time however they are also the reasons why this musical rates as one of the most demanding disciplined and assiduous tasks for the leading players of any musical And for the most part the opening performance of My Fair Lady Thursday by the students and teachers of Barrie entral ollegiate demon strated to the audience of 700 why this musical is such classic The massiveness of the pro duction requirements in stag ing the musical from the choreographic orchestration to the frequent change of stage scenery to the precise co ordination of the music with the drama places the highest demands on vain aristocratic phonetics professor and how he accepts bet that he can transform Eliza Doolittle young lady raised in Londons skidltrow area to the stature of princess or duchess And Hig gns can do all this simply by teaching her to unlcarn her hor rible slum accent and to learn the dialect of the aristocracy Higgins wins his bet but in the process he experiences number of reverses at the hands of stubborn but brave Eliza Its the battle of the sexes at its highest level Brigit Wilson Grade 13 stu dent plays the role of Eliza Doolittle Miss Wilson was almost brilliant in her role iler acting places demand on his readers and audience to engage all their senses in his plays My Fair Lady demanded close attention to its dramatic dialogue by the au dience Moreover the main characters in Thursdays musical were well coached by director Meg ODonal to make full use of the important stage techniques of timing voice in flection and bodily expres sions EAItIIERCING VOWELS Mark Kostandoff and quartet also delighted the au dience with such popular songs as With Little Bit of Luck The Rain In Spain Ascot Gavotte Wouldnt It Be Luverly and Get Me to the Church On Time There were however few spots in My Fair Ladv that need touching up Besides wor king on their stage timing and syncopation the cast should concentrate on speaking more to the audience in their line deliveries It would also help if they moved closer to the front of the stage when speaking My Fair Lady promises an evening of thorough entertain ment and enjoyment It will be staged again tonight and Satur day at pm at
