lighted yellow tapers and harmonizing floral arrangements courtesy of Lorkim Flowers and Maggie Anderson again came through with one of her original poems to extend appreciation to the ladies for the lovely dinner The InHospital service program initiated this past year is appreciated by the staff and patients as is the services of the Candy Stripers for whom 300 hour bar will be available in 78 Two issues of the newsletter Smock Talk kept members informed of events and activities of other auxiliary groups and helpful suggestions gleaned by members attending con ventions and conferences As 1978 is the 50th an niversary year for Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston the auxiliary will be cooperating with the board of governors to celebrate with special program for Hospital Day on May 12th TAG IY Although some funds are derived through Tag Day donations and auctions and draws among the mem bership financial assistance to the hospital is primarily made possible through the successful operation of the Gift Shop and during the meeting Mary McCutcheon presented the auxiliary with further cheque of $4000 During 77 the group provided $3000 toward the purchase of Foetal Heart Monitor an lvac and three Nebulizers and completed curtaining the hospital by providing $946 for heat resistant flameretardent nursery curtains Besides completing the commitment on the purchase of equipment now in use it was proposed that some $5000 be donated in 78 to provide three Diascope machines for use during anesthesia Hospital Administrator Arthur Consaul again ex pressed appreciation to the auxiliary on behalf of the board for generous financial support pointing out that during the past six years over $30000 has been turned over to purchase equipment forSlIH EXECUTIVE Executive Auxiliary Volunteer Services of OHA gave humorous and yet thought provoking talk on How to Attend Meeting andEnjoyIt Listing the what to do and what not to do when at tending meetings brought out many common practises and she made the comment bad conduct drives out the good inmeetings We shouldnt feel that it is waste of time to attend meeting and there should be some time for fun and tumor she said Miss Stewart also listed rumber of ways to get the most out of meeting and suggested executive members should learn new techniques of getting new ideas from old methods and concluded with humorous suggestions as to how to survive meeting Phyllis Anderson ex pressed thanks to the speaker and asked that she accept the floral table centre as token of appreciation BIG BROTHERS Big Brothers of Alliston and District will sponsor its second annual Bowl for Millions from Feb 11 through Feb 18 with Mayor Oakla Gray as honorary chairman This major fundraising event is for all people of all ages bowlers nonbowlers adults young people and children It is an opportunity for all to help the local association raise necessary operating budget money to continue and expand services to boys from fatherabsent homes in this area League bowlers will participate on their regular league bowling night bet ween Feb 1217 and non league bowlers on Celebrity Days Feb 11 and Feb 18 Participants are to pick up sponsor sheet at Alliston Bowl then canvass friends relatives and neighbors for their support Prizes will be awarded in the following categories League trophy and one night free bowling for honor at communi ty shower held in the Church recreation room recently Mrs Myrtle Sawyers and Mrs Dorothy Black each gave reading with advice to bride Mrs Inez Spence conducted jumble word Shock after verdict contest with Mrs Ruby Cochrane Grace Black and Evelyn Wright as winners Mrs Spencer then invited the guest of honor to chair and told of Janices growing up Miss Todd was helped in the opening way she offered her services to mission work in Guatemala Central Amer cia She left Canada in December 1927 and sailed from Los Angeles the follow ing month After learning the Spanish language she went to live in coastal town and began visiting the homes in the sur rounding district and gathering the children together for weekly Bible study in each place In 1949 she returned to Guatemala City to help with the printing of Christian magazine As well as helping with the press work translating correcting pro ofs and preparing articles for printing she continued with her childrens classes and visiting the different hospitals in that city of over 500000 Miss Greaves returned to Canada in 1964 and made her home with her brother Wilson in Craighurst village In 1969 she moved to Elim Senior Citizens Home in Waubashene where she raided until her death on Jan 1978 Surviving are one brother Robert of tawa and two sisters Mrs Margaret Morrison and Mrs Catherine Buker of Craighurst GARDEN IIB
