NEWS ROUNDUP Levesque hits QUEBEC CP Premier Rene Levesque struck back at his critics in the business com munity Thursday accusing fifth column of English Canadian businessmen of pain ting negative picture of Quebec to US financiers In news conference Mr Le vesque defended his speech ear lier this week to the Economic Club of New York while also slipping in jabs at Prime Minis ter Trudeau who began threeday tour of the Quebec City area Thursday Mr Levesque said the prime minister is playing the role of Confederations saviour when his real interest is to shore up his own sagging popularity But his sharpest words were reserved for antediluvian Canadian businessmen who view Quebec as an inner colony of great raw resources and cheap labor and have basic hostility to any kind of change in Quebec Noting that many Canadian businessmen attended his New York speech the premier said their hostility made it difficult to explain his views to Ameri cans Nevertheless he said his pri vate conversations with Wall St money men went better than the public speech He described their attitude as extremely sympathetic Although many Canadian businessmen and some Ameri cans have criticized his empha sis on the inevitability of Que bec independence Mr Le vesque said it would have been useless and ridiculous not to discuss political issues NDP prepares RENFREW Ont CPI Henry Pattinson an
