annual Harry Armstrong memorial trophy bonspiel for senior players at the Barrie curling rink on Essa road This major event for curlers of 50 years or more has been scheduled for Saturday Dec with arrangements calling for draws at and 1130 There will be two lOend games for each etitry with the trophy and prizes to be presented at banquet following the curling Secretary Frank Hersey also reports early preparations for the Barrie curling clubs centennial boiispiel which is to be held in April The date has been set for Saturday April with two draws planned and three games for each rink taking part In the ladies section arrangements are proceeding for the annual Valentines bonspiel which is to be held on Thursday Feb 17 atid the twoday Hiram Walker trophy coinpttition on Tuesday and Wednesday March 13 and to Jean Crump is con vener in charge of entries Molsons mixed hoiispiel is another highlight event which is planned for Saturday March 26 The Bank of Montreal will sponsor another mixed bonspiel on Saturday April 10 The Barrie business girls will hold bonspiel of their own to celebrate the clubs centennial which has been set forSaturday March 12 Winners will receive the Molsons and CKRB trophies There will be two draws with Mrs Marg Mason con vener In the meantime curling play is getting into the home stretch of fall schedules with playoffs coming up the middle of next month In the mens section winners ill receive trophies from Labatts breweries Consumers Gas and OK Johnson travel agency William Hargreaves heads the mens curling club this season with Murdie Campbell vicepresident Lillian Gravey is presi dent of the Ladies section and Millie Whalcn is president for the business girls STANDOLT ELMVALE OIIA TEAMS During discussion of standout Eliiivale hockey teams of the past at popular village conversation centre the achievements of the 1967438 club received frequent mention check of the records showed the Merchants of that memorable season just missed winning the interiiiuliate OHA championship under the guidance of Harry Adams brother of Corby Adams Carl Edwards Alvin Smith and Stu McKenzie were scoring aces of that fine team which reached stalwarts and the fastpassing forwards included Roe McAuley Doug Kirton Ken Bauldry and Doug Smith John Brown was then one of the younger players on that aggressive team Lou Belcourt assisted Harry Adams with piloting the team as manager while Norm Crane was club president Incidentally Harry and Corby Adams along with brother Bill were all standouts with another notable Elmvale team the ItifitHio squad which made the Central Ontario rural playoffs ANOTHER MEMORABLE HOCKEY SEASON The 197374 season was also given more than ordinary atten tion The Elmvale team reached the intermediate
