confusion as to what happens to lottery prize money if the ï¬cket bearing the number drawn for prize has not been sold Some lotteries treat that money as revenue and keep it others agree to pay portion of it back in subsequent draws and still others have no declared policy at all The purpose of this letter is to make it clear that the policy of the Ontario Lottery Corporation in respect of both Wintario and The Provincial Lottery has always been to pay out all unclaimed prizes as bonus rizes in subsequent draws Under no circumstances does the prize money of the 1Wintario or the $5 Provincial ever return to the Ontario Lottery Corporation or the Government It remains as prize money until distributed And this applies to unclaimed prize money whether it results from the failure of winner for whatever reasons to claim his prize or is due to the remote possibility that the prize winning ï¬cket in question was not sold During the last year 98 percent of Wintario tickets issued for each draw have been sold If Wintario prize is not collected within one year it goes into special bonus draw SO far there have been two bonus draws each with 100 bonus prizes worth $10000 each In the Provincial the different ticket design and draw frequency allows us to deter mine prior to the next draw ii any of the unsold tickets returned at the close of sales inst prior to the draw were eligible to win major prizes If they were those prizes are added to the draw as bonus prizes NUllllliti is withheldEVER tht unclaimed or unawarded prizes after the expiry of the one year claimin lt 10d will be nansferred to special prize fund as bonus or additional pi law It subsequent draws This is the same as Wintario Nt Nl THE PRIZE MONEY IN EITHER LOTTERY EVER GOES TO THE 30lth hAllt OR THE GOVERNMENT in the last Provincial draw October 31 1976 two tickets bearing grand prize winning numbers one for $1 million and one for $250000 were found to be among the tickets returned Both of these prizes will be added to the next Provmcml draw on December 31 as special prizes They will be awarded by drawing two additional bonus numbers ONTARIO LOTTERY CORPORATION PS This means that there will be sg chances at $250000 and six chances at $1 ItlllllOll in the next Provincial Lottery Draw New Years Eve December Blst itssirnhnir
