Mariposa Arts Theatres presentation of Memories Are Made of This is definite ly in for delightful evening of nostalgic musical enter tainment The revue takes lace in the garden of the autiful Stephen Leacock Home in Orillia Tables and chairs are set up under the skies and one can sip wine and nibble cheese while being enter tained by the hit songs from such famous musicals as Kiss Me Kate Guys and Dolls Sound of Music South Pacific and others There were over 300 people in the audience for the open ing night of Memories Are Made of This despite the somewhat inclimate weather great deal of credit must go to Jackson Spear who directed the revue The audience could easily hear and see clearly Good diction by the singers was used throughout and the singers were surely chosen because of the range and ap ropriateness of their voice or each particular song HIGH STANDARDS Mr Spear must have set high standards for the correct facial expressions and characterizations because the actors and actresses por trayed their parts beautiful 1y the The whole staging was quite interesting putting to full use the white stucco building as great backdrop for some effective lighting Also the balcony was used for couple of numbers and the audience looked up to voice as if from heaven The many doors of the Leacock porch aided in very smooth exits and entrances by the actors and this kept the pace of the show taut Michele Welsh as usual has done some excellent choreographical work with the performers Particular mention must be given to Joode Engel and John Bannerman who did beautiful ballet dance to both So in Love from Kiss Me Kate and Castles in Spain from Babes in Toyland There was some delightful waltzing and some humorous exaggerated dance steps EFFECTIVE The costumes were not elaborate but enough small changes occurred with the use of hats collars scarfs and hand props that it was not hard for the audience to im agine the real thing as it might have been for each particular fullscale show The singing was delightful The Mariposa Arts Theatre group is surely blessed with some lovely voices Mary Jo Masterson easil won the heart of the au ience when she sang Lusty Month of May from Camelot Aldonza from Man of La Mancha and when she joined with Jim Barnetts beautiful deep voice to Wonderbar from Kiss Me Kate Elizabeth Reid has lovely rich voice with tremendous range which was heard when she sang Follow Me from Camelot Climbs Every Mountain from Sound of Music and He is Wonder ful from The King and Beth McCraken shone when she sang Whistle Happy Tune and Hellow Young Lovers from King and Ken Brown Harry Speed Ray Storey and Geraldine Barnard proved to be great entertainment as well WHOLE CHORUS Shivers went up the spine to hear the whole chorus sing such songs as Sound of Music Camelot Some En chanted Evening Look for the Silver Lining and The Impossible Dream Although their prior publicity for Memories Are Made of This wasnt great it is
